Are Gay pride day marches necessary?
Forums › General Discussion › Are Gay pride day marches necessary?-
I am an artist and I had a discussion today in my workshop with some students about this topic.I was aggrieved and taken aback by the views of one of my students in particular.I'm not gay myself ,but have many gay friends who (though much less than before) are still subjected to cheap jibes and insults, and I feel it to be an important event in order to raise the acceptance of the gay community. The pageant is flamboyant ( not to my tastes as I prefer to be in my studio painting, watching a film or enjoying TW) but helps to increase awareness .The floor is open. I await your views.

Not necessary but also They don't hurt anyone. I see nothing wrong with them. Let the feather boas fly I say.

I think it does more bad than good. It just gives people who are homophobic something to complain about. If it was toned down a little and not quite as flamboyant I think it could do a lot of good but the way it is now just tend to upset people

So am I evil because I have a problem with gays? The fact that I don't want my daughters to see 2 men in a parade kissing? Am I evil because it turns my stomach to see 2 men holding hands? Am I a bad person to believe that marriage is a man and a woman? Why am I vilified because I am straight???

No I think that is a common reaction. You are not as open minded as some but not evil. Personally I do not enjoy seeing any public display of affection regardless of who it is between. (by the way I am straight but I do have gay and bisexual friends.)So am I evil because I have a problem with gays? The fact that I don't want my daughters to see 2 men in a parade kissing? I like the parades bc it's just a huge as party. I enjoy regular parades just as well :). Awareness is important. But these parades won't change the world. It's just a fun time for us! However, in response to a comment above, parade or no parade. The people openly and aggrasivly opposing gay rights and acknowledgment will do so parade or no parade. Did I spell parade right? It looks weird to me. What a weird word.

I don't really want to outlaw the parades of public display of affection. I just don't want to be vilified for not liking it. What u do in ur bedroom is 100% ur business. I just ask that people don't get pissed at me if I don't agree with it.

Yes what else would half the V forum do for fun.

Parades in general are flamboyant. The gay pride parades are great. Both entertaining and the way Saba meets most of his "friends"

Why is he uncomfortable with his sexuality? Why does it seem the group complaining about judgment the most dish out that same judgment? If you don't want to be judged then stop calling people homophobes and/or uncomfortable with themselves. I for one am very comfortable with myself. And I'm tired of having the gay lifestyle rammed in my face. If you want acceptance, try being as tolerable as you're trying to force us to be.

Wish I turned on the right keyboard to applause the last post but u get the idea.

Parades themselves are kinda gay so I think a straight parade would contradict itself

Race, gender, and sexual orientation are all irrelevant. We are all humans and should all be equal. There's nothing special about gays, African americans, Asians, Muslims, or Jews. People should quit seperating everybody and get along.
