Turf Hopping Formula

@ Questions,
I'm finally starting to come around & see your logic. The GPS build circle is way bigger than the 84 inf turf; so I think you have the most accurate calcs for build distance based off the your measurements & the aforementioned 400 ft reference.
You know I can just picture Nick sitting back LHAO watching us try to figure out his game logic! haha!!
-
Yeah, I like to think that he occasonally sits down with a cup of coffee and reads over the odd post for some laughs :)
Also Im pretty sure that GPS build is 0.6mi because if you take a screenshot from somewhere in the map that has good landmark points of reference and then use google maps in the exact same location with the google distance measuring tool it works the distance as pretty much 0.6mi
-
So there are two known or verified distances: 0.6mi & 400ft or 0.076mi.
The ratio of the GPS build circle you measured
- over the known 0.6 mile distance
- compared to the 10 inf turf you measured
- over the known 400 foot distance is surprisingly close.I figured out the ratio of pixels to feet comes out to be approximately 17 to 88. So every 17 pixels equates to 88ft.
-
Here are the distance calculations based off of the 17/88 ratio: Do they compare?
Inf | Pix | Feet | Miles |
GPS | 612 | 3168.00 | 0.6000 |
84 | 455 | 2355.29 | 0.4461 |
64 | 350 | 1811.76 | 0.3431 |
49 | 273 | 1413.18 | 0.2676 |
42 | 238 | 1232.00 | 0.2333 |
35 | 206 | 1066.35 | 0.2020 |
28 | 165 | 854.12 | 0.1618 |
22 | 142 | 735.06 | 0.1392 |
18 | 116 | 600.47 | 0.1137 |
16 | 104 | 538.35 | 0.1020 |
14 | 96 | 496.94 | 0.0941 |
12 | 85 | 440.00 | 0.0833 |
10 | 77 | 398.59 | 0.0755 | -
Yep seems pretty close.

Indeed...really nice work on that!! I would have never thought to bring a screen shot into paint to measure pixels; I did consider measuring millimeters on the screen though.Yep seems pretty close.

I started with a ruler and the screen but gave up because I was going blind squinting at he screen. Then one morning the idea came to me.
-
I'm still a little confused over your price breakdown. Anyway of simplifying it a bit?
Maybe something like:
Inf | $/Placement | $/Build | #/Mile | $/Mile |Influence level, cost of placement, cost to build to that influence level, number of turfs required to travel a mile & the cost to go that mile.
Then we can apply a percentage to factor in non-linear travel & not quite perfect placement. We should then have a considerably accurate per mile formula for calculating # of turfs & total cost.
-
Placement Cost ($k) | Price Per Mile ($k) | Most ecconomic Turf to build
Cost 1 - 54 | 251 - 950 | 10 inf
Cost 55 - 241 | 955 - 2585 | 18 inf
Cost 242 - 508 | 2593 - 4232 | 28 inf
Cost 509 - 700 | 4236 - 4948 | 49 inf
Cost 701 - 1495 | 4951 - 7257 | 64 inf
Cost 1496+ | 7260+ |84 inf -
The above gives advises the optimal turf to place to keep to lowest possible total cost of travel.
However, building low inf turfs is going to take longer than plonking down 84 inf turfs each time. So it's a formula for turf hopping on a budget so to speak.
-
It's difficult to estimate the overall cost because it is very infulenced on the turf placement cost of each hop.
If you've got patience then the 28 inf turf is a good balance. Eg. At 250k placement cost it gives $2642 per mi for a 28 inf turf compared to $4476 per mi for a 84 inf turf
-
Idisnt read past Matts chart, but I was building turf on a straght line. I paid attention to the distance from present location and it seemed I was dropping centers at .42 to .46 miles after building the previous turf to 84. That corresonds with the numbers at the top of the list.
-
How are you calculating influence? For example, 4 razor wire + 2 graffiti are cheaper then buying 2 storefronts, even though both options give you 10 influence.
-
BuildIng items in order (smallest first) gives the cheapest way to build ip to any inf value.
-
Alright math wizzes good work. Now gove mw speed lol. One turf a minute buillt to 84 inf = how many MPH??
What are we talking here I'm thinking from you guys numbers it's less than 50 mph but wasn't sure what you setteled on for distance travled with 84 inf turfs.

The build distance is from the center of an 84 influence turf is .6 mile, I'mprettysure. If you place a turf down, max it out the turf screen will say how far it is from tour current location so if you place another turf down at the very edge of the green circle in alinement with the other turf and your current location it should be about .6 miles away from the center of the original turf that you placed.Questions wrote:
A long overdue reply:I think we hve the build distance wrong. The build distance from GPS position is .6mi but the build distance from a 84inf turf is more like 0.42mi
I'm basing this information off my interpretation of the information in the game help that states you can build a turf anywhere within 0.6 miles of your current location or from one of your existing turfs....meaning both your GPS location & 84 influence turf has the same sized build circle. -

I actually timed myself. I can turf hop at 10 mph.

If you compare the build influence of an 84 turf against the build influence of your GPS location, you would see the 84 inf turf has a noticeably smaller build circle. -
Bump... Matt I'm a bit dodgy with math can you help me? I want to turf hop 451 miles, how much will it cost?

Let's say you are using fully upgraded 84 inf turfs...the formula would be as follows:
n = Average Turf Placement Cost
s = Slop Factor
d = Distance
t = Turfs
c = Cost in Millionsn = 150k/turf (adjust this higher if you're going thru large populated areas)
s = 15% (non-linear travel, turf placement not all the way at the edge of the previous turf's influence ring, etc.)
d = 451t = (451 / 0.4461)= 1011 + (1011*15%) = 1163 Turfs
c = t * (1.8 + n) = 1163 * 1.8 + .150 = 2,267.85 Million (2.267 Billion) -
I think people might still ask you that cause I didn't understand a thing you said.and also what about the upgrades cause at influence 1 you don't have a radius
-
Does that include if you tear down previous turfs?
-
I'm not sure vinny
-
Umm what?!?!
-
Matt, it's time for you to add in the UB & police map to the formula! :)
-
In addition, price will vary if you have to hop across a populated city. In NYC it cost 8mil just to plant the turf

I don't know if I'm missing something here or if things have changed. However, when I sell a fully upgraded (84 influence) turf, I get 1.7m, not 1.8m. So should 1.7 be substituted for 1.8 in the formula?@ Mystery:
In the example above in my reply to Brown Note, the recoup value is already accounted for because if you notice I'm multiplying by 1.8m & 1.0m.
A fully upgraded turf costs 3.6m so you recoup half that when you sell; thus 1.8m.
All turf upgrades except for the last one costs a total of 2.0m or 1.0m after the sell-off. This is the most economical route because you save appx. 35% but will have to place at least around 30% more turfs.
I further simplified the formula for you:
Using Fully Upgraded Turfs-
Cost = 3.0m per mile.
Turfs = 1.7 turfs per mile.Using limited upgrades (all but last influence upgrade)-
Cost = 2.2m per mile.
Turfs = 2.2 turfs per mile. -
Just thought of a potentially neat idea, a charity turf hop rally.
Nick chooses a start and end point. Maybe even gives the competitors a temp second account to race with.
Sponsorship in account name or turf naming? Or adverts on the competitors blogs.
Anyway, what do people think?
I know this should really be in suggestions forum, I could pea roast if peeps think it's an ok idea. -

Wow I thought this was turf wars not quantum physics lolEvery now & then I see someone asking how much it costs to go from Point A to Point B by Turf Hopping or Leap-Frogging. Well here is the formula:
Variables:
c = TOTAL COST
d = The DISTANCE you want to travel.
Turf Influence = 0.6mi or 0.966km
Travel Increment = 0.6/2 = 0.3
(you can only travel the radius of your turf's influence ring)
Turf Cost = 3.5m - 1.7m
(recouping previous Turf) = 1.8mFormula:
c = (d / 0.3) * 1.8
Example:
So if you want to Turf Hop 100 miles -
c = (d/0.3)*1.8
c = (100/0.3) * 1.8
c = 333.33 * 1.8
c = 600m
