HOW TO: Arm your mob
Forums › Help & Strategy › HOW TO: Arm your mob-
As for updating this post it was talked about but I came to the conclusion that with only two melee weapons at such a large spread of power from eachother it wasn't necessary. Now if we get more weapons added to the mix, I will be sure to make an update

Ok, I changed up my setup. I sold everything that requires an upkeep, just keeping the minimal needed to do missions, and equipped everyone with kev, grenade and shank. I'm at 35k upkeep and it's working great. I just make sure I attack with 2/1 or 3/1 odds. My attack and defense is about 55,000.
-
I'd skip the AK's in the 2nd combo & do Minis. I had that for a LONG time until I finally had to switch to Lapuas.
-
Are ak's the first weapon with upkeep?

What level do you suggest the first and second transition? Because right now I have no upkeep weapons and about 600k profit. It that a good place to start or do I wait until 1mil so when I buy turf I can upgrade it in a few hours?

In Mr. Nice Guy's example, I'm not sure what "very new" means. If you are just starting you shouldn't get any upkeep weapons or armor, so I'd sub shanks for steel-toed shoes.
-
Unless you are absolutely desperate for money, do NOT sell weapons or armor that don't have upkeep! They do not hurt you. If you ever have to sell upkeep weapons, they will help you have something to arm your mob.

Is getting Molotov cocktails worth it?
-
Nope get galeski or grenades

The 'Shanks / Shoes' debate
If you buy Shanks there is no defence advantage at all and you will probably end up buying Steel-toed Shoes at a later date anyway.
When Compared to a Kevlar / Galesi only setup, Steel-toed Shoes give an additional 56% attack and 31% defence for only $60 upkeep per mob. (the second best upkeep/points ratio of any item)
If for example you have 1,000 mob the total upkeep is only equivalent to what can be earned from a single well placed 86 influence turf.
The initial cost is relatively expensive but it is a long term investment in the absence of any better melee weapons (at this time). -
The transitional weapon debate
I would recommend the AK-47 as the weapon to choice over the XM 400 Minigun as a player moves from no upkeep towards maximum defence / attack combinations.
The XM400 Minigun costs 5x the AK-47 to buy and 2.5x the AK-47 in upkeep.
When the 2 setups are compared the Minigun combo gives 14% more attack and 13% more defence than the AK-47 combo.
Therefore whilst a player is still building cash reserves and upgrading turf / weapons the AK-47 offers excellent value for money.
The Minigun is very close in terms of attack and defence to the Lapua Rifle and is only half the initial outlay. Therefore the Minigun combo may be beneficial if you intend to retain the weapons for a long time. However if you hope to move on to a Lapua Rifle / Tommy Gun setup then the AK-47 offers the most cost effective transition. -
Shanks/Shoes - I'm talking about someone starting out that can't afford any upkeep yet. It doesn't matter that they'll buy shoes later; it's always good to hold on to weapons that don't require upkeep.
-
Transitional weapons - I can see your point. I started with grenades, since Galesis didn't exist at that point. I had those for a long time. I upgraded to miniguns, which I had for a long time. My last transition was to Lapuas.
I think you are saying that if you choose the AK route, it makes more sense to stick with them until you switch to Lapuas. Is that correct?

AK-47 / Minigun
The main point is that AK-47s are cheap to buy and low upkeep relative to the attack & defence points you get. If you intend at a later date to move up to better weapons the AK-47 saves a lot of money compared to Miniguns. -
What I found to be good is to use the sniper combo but purchase a tommy gun for each mob member when you go on a big offensive, after that you wait a week for counter attacks then you sell the tommies after the ordeal and thus save money when you are defending against
random everyday attacks. -

I posted this mainly to help those who want/ need a higher attack but can't figure out how to afford it. -
Arming your mob:
When you are very new aim for:
1x 🔨 Meat Cleaver
1x 👕 Kevlar Vest
1x 🔫 Galesi Model 503 / GrenadeAs your income increases work towards:
1x👟 Steel-toed Shoes
1x 👕 Body Armour
1x 🔫 AK-47When you are confident about a steady income buy:
1x👟 Steel-toed Shoes
1x 👕 Body Armour
1x 🔫 .338 Lapua RifleYou should have 1 melee, 1 armour and 1 weapon for each member of your mob. Use the 'Manage your inventory' button to view the ranking of your equipment.

👆The above advice 👆 is only my opinion but it is based on some maths that I have done in terms of value for money on both purchase and upkeep.
Arming your mob to suit your own game style is important so there is no set formula that can be applied to everyone. -

Hold down the "buy" button under the weapon you want for about 2 seconds. An option will come up enabling you to buy different multiples of guns, up to 1,000 at a time.I have 1000 mob members how do I buy a lot of guns quickly

I've read through these posts and I understand the combo explanations and differences between new, transitional, and high income choices. I'm finally between new and transitional and looking forward to better weapons. I'm afraid of the upkeep though. I think a good measure that I haven't heard mentioned yet is percentage of income spent on upkeep. I've seen some players with apparently low incomes (few turfs) with an abundance of high upkeep weapons. It seems like they are spending almost all their income on income. Others seem quite low. What might be a good percentage to spend on upkeep--that way your growth in upkeep weapons would coincide with your growth in income (or decline)?
-
About half.
-
It's up to the individual player. Some buy big and temporarily go negative just to arm up for a short conflict. Others are purely defensive and never purchase the tommy guns. I've read some players decision is based on a 50/50 ratio. They earn a gross of say $10m per hour, so they won't spend more than $5m on upkeep. It's a tenuous balance, between being able to have a flow of income to fund growth, while not over capitalizing on weapon upkeep.

Note: Your best weapons & armor are automatically equipped!
The inventory section on your profile is only for equipping armor piercing rounds or toolboxes (both of which are loot).

Question, while I've been using MNG's lists to guide me, I'm looking at miniguns. With 250k lower price but ony a few a/d points diff, I'm wondering why stick with AKs vs MGs for an upper middle set.

So are steel toed boots a good thing to buy early on? I am having trouble getting my mob armed. A lot of different things seem to be recommended, I am just not sure where to start.
