How to hop w/Union Boss for $179k/hop
Forums › Help & Strategy › How to hop w/Union Boss for $179k/hop-
This is for new people that don't have much wealth saved up...or those of us that can't seem to save :).
The union boss changed the old optimum rule for the best hop distance per $ in sparse terrain...
From:
"buildup all turf upgrades except gambling den"
To:
Save not only the 1.5m cost of the den, but also the 750k cost of the warehouse and even the 900k cost of the loading docks (divided by two of course).
The process is a bit more convoluted, but oddly enough the time per hop is about the same, but there are twice as many hops.
Method: place a turf and upgrade it with everything uthrough the 2 125k storefronts. Then equip the union boss. Then create your second turf. Immediately unequip the union boss and then destroy the first turf. Repeat all of this on the second turf and so on. If you are impatient you can use the union boss in place of the den with all the rest of the upgrades and still save money.
-
Great idea, this will help a lot. Just make sure you unequip your boss before you tear down!
-
Yes, and according to my wife it helps to work your hop turf names thru the alphabet so you don't get dyslexic and delete the wrong ones ( or both).
I just found it was dangerous to hop and watch NASCAR and talk to the wife at the same time, so just hopped and watched NASCAR :).

Good tips kids.

Thank you

Great tip, I almost always use the 28 inf. turf hopping (I don't use union bosses just because I know I'll be stupid and forget to Unequip and tear down with the union boss still on and lose it).
Might I add 1 addendum. Hopping this way saves you money as long as the price to drop a turf is under $1.5 million. If it's under that amount you are saving money than by using 84 inf. turf hopping. The lower the cost to drop the more you save. But if the cost is over $1.5 million (roughly) it's the better to use 84 inf. turfs to hop because the cost to drop will add up to more.

Actually I had heard that with union boss you don't get extra radius above what you would get for normal 84. If that is the case (forgot to test that) then going with union boss on top of 64 will give you 80 so that would save you 750k even in crowded areas.
-
If anyone is curious, the hop speed using the $179k/hop approach was about 7 miles per hour (while watching tv). Anyone have numbers for full up hopping?
-
I use the union boss on top of the 64 influence to get 80 influence method. When I tear down I get $629k back.

I had heard the "top speed" for turf hopping was 30mph. I think that's only if your building 84inf turf and not tearing down as you go. You would need to be way under limit and not be easily distracted. I start to lose focus after 5-10 turfs so I don't know for sure.If anyone is curious, the hop speed using the $179k/hop approach was about 7 miles per hour (while watching tv). I just did a short hop, 20 miles using 10 turfs @ 84inf and tearing down after each set. Took me 80 minutes, so that works out to about 15 mph for my top speed. I do prefer to use 64inf turf then equip a boss, I think this is best as far as speed and $ are concerned.
-
Max speed over 3G iPhone was 8 mph with the $179k hopping....about 12 mph with iPad on wifi. Can't be distracted though.

So before equipping a UB to an 84 inf turf didn't increase the build radius (I have pics that I took to show this.) However, today I was going to try & figure out the max inf it would help with. I equipped a UB to an 84 inf to start & it did increase the build radius! (I took pics today too.)
-
Yep...just used it for hopping. Nick must have fixed that when he fixed the police map. Changes the dynamics yet again.
-
I still use the same method. However, I equip my starting turf that has 84 inf with a UB so a get a bit of a jump start. I wonder if UB's affect police naps.

Other tidbits for hopping:
1) when in the countryside in the US, quite often you see roads forming squares. These are typically a section of land which is 640 acres, or more importantly exactly one square mile. So you have a ruler of sorts.
2) with the union boss you can get up to 100 inf turf which gives you exactly 1.00 mile diameter creation radius, this means that you can hop in 1/2 mile jumps (depending on your finger precision). Yes, 84 inf turf gives you a 0.84 mile diameter and so on...didn't quite make the association until lately
All this means is that at full up using just two turfs you can hop say 20 miles in 40 hops or so and it will cost you a bit under $80M and from experience between 1 and 2 hrs assuming interruptions from the spouse and dog.
-
👆 I take it the 80 million doesn't include the cost of planting the turf, since that is so variable.
So the above is also the "fast" way, as opposed to the "cheap" way, since each hop would cost you $2 million (not the $179, like the title says. 😜)
-
Yep...didn't want to start a new thread :) .... Plus if you hop across iowa like I was doing recently the plant cost is only 10k or so...definitely worth bypassing downtown areas if you can.
Easy to calc the 179k hop distance by the inf level, however, using the above logic...so you would go .44 miles every 2 hops or basically 5 hops per mile. Or a bit under $1M per mile....and if you did the 'tween' logic at 80 inf using a UB it would be just under $2M per mile at 3 hops per mile...at least close enough for government work.

I am a lazy man whos not able to do math, how long would it take to hop like 10 kilometers/miles? I live in a pretty much dead city where noone plays so my income is aweful.
-
Depends on if your going 10 miles or kilometers.

What about all the other factors? What kind of device are you using? What version of the OS do you have? Do you have the latest TW update? Do you use your finger or your thumb? Do you hold your device vertically or horizontally (if applicable)? 😄Depends on if your going 10 miles or kilometers.

This is still useful but it would be interesting to see the difference when the new looted turf upgrades added in.
-
It is much cheaper now. I hopped a couple days ago. I am hopping again in the next few days. I will post tally here.
-
I have been using the new upgrades and doing a lot of hopping lately :). Couple of notes...
1) bagman is worthless on hops...too much work for too little gain,
2) the other upgrades will get you up to 119 inf so each hop can be 1.19 / 2 = 0.6 miles,
3) the new upgrades are enough to allow 'free hopping'...basically hop short distances by only applying the equip-able upgrades...of course you still have the turf placement cost so this is most effective in suburbs. Great for tweaking in or out of range of someone
4) I have noticed that using maps with 119 inf turfs provides quite variable results...had 3 maps give me 3.2 mile reach and 2 maps once give me 3.6 mile reach.Only one gripe...would be nice if all equip-able upgrades were at end of list rather than scattered
Check out the iPad $9.99 capacitive pen at sears. Gives a bit more precision for turf placement.

My cheap method consists of upgrading the turf using the market upgrades, leaving off the gambling den & warehouse. I then equip all the loot upgrades. I used to leave the bagmen off, which gave an influence of 84. I've started adding them though. I find it takes me just as much time to think about skipping them as it does just adding them. Since I have to remove the other loot anyway, removing them also doesn't take that long.
Of course, if the turf placement cost is high then I go ahead & add the warehouse & gambling den too, to minimize turf placement cost (by placing less turf).
-
As far as hopping (without police maps) goes, I buy everything up to the Razor Wires, then equip all the loot upgrades (yes, even the Bagmen, which I DO find to help slightly). This is super cheap, gives you a good hop distance, and gives your thumb lots of exercise. 😺

Great insight, I'm now grieving over all the money I've lost. I don't know why I never thought of that.

Turf Upgrade Cost, Quick Breakdown:
Hopping Fast Way:
1,500 x 5 = 7,500
4,000 x 6 = 24,000
18,000 x 4 = 72,000
125,000 x 2 = 250,000
300,000 x 3 = 900,000
750,000 x 1 = 750,000
1,500,000 x 1 = 1,500,000
_________
$3,503,500 for upgrades
Get 1/2 cost back when tear down = $1,751,750 *Doesn't include planting cost.Hopping Cheap Way
$1,253,500 for upgrades
Get 1/2 cost back = $626,750 *Doesn't include planting cost.$1,751,750 - $626,750 = $1,125,000 (diff in cost). However, you will be planting more, so if it's costly to plant, use the expensive way to hop.
