Mentors?
Forums › Suggestions & Feedback › Mentors?-
So I'm thinking about a more community-based way to help out the newbies who get battered by bullies. Probably the worst welcome for a new player is 20 attacks from someone 30 levels higher than them.
What about a "big brother/big sister" (no official name yet) program, where new players (say level 25 and below) have a way of being mentored and/or protected by a vet in their area.
Newbies would benefit by being able to grow without being steamrolled, help learning the ropes, not to mention a great way to meet players in the Turf Wars community. The vets can get direct in-game benefits (more on this as future features are announced), as well as a great way to socialize and make new allies.
Thoughts?

The problem is people my level still get bullied. Brown Note suuuuuxx. Oh, and I still deserve my geek cred for that Zelda reference!

I think this is a great idea.

Im interested. I'm constantly trying to stop mid-Low-high players killing off new players. The problem is that in doing this I am 'harming' the mid-Low-high players games. The problem of a pvp game is that someone has to lose. I do agree though that something has to be done to grow the community and make that game fun to start playing.

Sounds like a great idea. There would need to be some long term agreement probably so the mentor doesnt get the benefits, help the guy level up to 10% influence then just own them.
Also strong players dont need more benefits that help them fight, they should do it because they want to help and improve the game, more than just a way of getting stronger.
These things are always a good way of helping grow a community though, which is vital for sustainability.

I feel I would make a great mentor

True there will always be people who lose in the end. What I'm hoping to do is to give people a chance to get started and see whether they'll like the game before they get hammered.

It would be nice if we could have a turf automatically put next to our newbies, and make it so we can't hit them
-
Anything that gets new blood in the game is good. Are there any cooperative mechanisms that could be added - eg f you don't attack someone Small you a 'trade agreement' is automaticly set up. Thus being nice to smaller players is in the best interests of middle players.

I like this idea! Being new to the game myself and getting my first turf captured within my first week, I turned to the more experienced players for help! Also having a mentor would help us newbies understand the game functions such as vendetta and what weapons to buy first etc. Perhaps a special title is given to them also for new players to know who to approach??

I'll do it Nick. You know I always help and try to protect when asked. Whatever you need.

It would be useful if a player could nominate someone to 'follow' them. Maybe the follower could receive annoncements of Incoming attacks on the player. Perhaps there could be a level limit where people
over a certain level (25?) could not nominate a follower -
That would work except some people would end up getting 20-30 nominations and I know I can protect but I don't think I could keep up with that many ducklings. Maybe put like a 4 or 5 limit per one protector.

Oh and what if the mentor was able to auomatically help with attacks to retake turf that was originally created by the newbie? Oh wait, that could be exploited to inflate turf numbers for the newbie

Nick good idea and I'm totally down to help. I like helping the newbies alot. Sign me up

Plus I think this would be a gr8 idea, how bout having like 3 mentors per major city, 2 per smaller city and 1 for something like a village...?
-
Sounds excellent idea and I would volunteer.

I think it's an awesome idea I already know who I will help :)

Great idea. I'd love to officially mentor somone

this is great. I think it naturally happens too.

I hate bullies I always make deals with them and I could teach to make a reasonable deal

👍👍👍👍👍 i like and i would help

I think that the capo of their city should maybe protect them and be the bog brother because he knows the area.

not always. Just because someone is capo doesn't make them strong or experienced. Alot of good player don't even have capos. Take turfwarrior one of the top players and he just got his first capo this last week.I think that the capo of their city should maybe protect them and be the bog brother because he knows the area.

This is a great idea nick. Only problem I see is mule accounts abusing this. The only work around I can think of would be to randomly setup these big brother/little brother groups with a list of people that want to be mentored and people that want to be a mentor. This would also keep it evenly distributed for all willing players to be a mentor.

I'm in! Oh wait. I already am a mentor. Lol. I'm all for Helping promote new players. You know that Nick. Lol. I brought one to the party. (FYI. He's raving about how cool a game where the dev is willing to meet it's players and drink a few beers). Sign me up!

Integrate it into the game though. Maybe let people be Lieutenants for their local capo. If attacked in a city where they have a capo, they get to use him like a defensive vendetta. The capo in turn gets to skim 5 - 10% of the turf's cash.
Or maybe let them set up farms and return lost cows. I dunno.

I help new members daily any way I can. Anyway I can help I'm up for it.
