Protection for Protection $

This is a rough idea & I haven't even decided if I like it or not yet.
My thought is that when a player pays protection money, their turf should actually get some kind of protection from the person they are paying.
Say Bert's 10 inf turf is paying protection to Ernie's 86 inf turf. This could mean that in order to cap Bert's turf, you'd first have to reduce the influence on Ernie's turf so that it's no longer covering Bert's turf. Instead, it might mean that it's just harder to cap Bert's turf than it would otherwise be.
My thought is that since it's called paying protection, people should receive some kind of protection. It would also make people think carefully about who they want to collect from, since they could be sucked into a war without realizing it.
Thoughts?

Nice idea. But mob protection in RL never actually protected you from anyone except the person you were paying protection to. Hence the name extortion
-
I agree but blokes right in RL it's just protection from the guy your paying
-
Yeah the whole protection in the game is so if you're extracting protection, you won't really cap their turf (usually) because you're getting money from them.
-
Well if we are pointing out differences in RL from TW, how many mobsters carry around a mini gun? How many mobsters you see in US or UK carrying an RPG? I like the protection for protection idea. Make things more complicated and makes people think more!

How many mobsters use submarines, yet everyone wanted to jump on that bandwagon.
Mafia families protect members of their own from other families. Gang members protect each other as well. It's way less far-fetched than submarines.

👍👌😄 not bad

Sorry mys but I disagree this time. The protection feature was made to emulate the mob protection racket. A famous extortion scam. Gives the game a more mob like feel. To change it to actually give protection I feel would take away from that. Also it would seem like a punishment for putting up plot upgrades and make it even harder to find a home for them

No need to apologize for disagreeing. It's not supposed to make upgrades seem like punishment. My thought was that if someone was paying off 1 group/family to keep the family from harassing them, if another family came along & demanded the same, wouldn't the first family protect the little guy? If they didn't, wouldn't they then get less money?
Idk, in my mind it seems to go along with the theme of this game, when about half of the other suggestions don't seem to. Maybe it's a bad idea, but it would certainly make things interesting.

I would think that the protection you get from extortion (or racketeering) would provide the protection of only paying to them. I don't think John Gotti would have let another Family walk into one of the dry cleaners and demand they pay protection to the Gotti's and the second family. Doesnt that sound like what mystery is suggesting?

I was just thinking the same thing mystery. The turf getting paid protection should absorb some of the damage if a protected turf gets attacked. Though I doubt this would be a very popular idea.

Still don't like it. Protection isn't meant to be a double edged sword. Having this would make all those looted upgrades so much lees desirable
-
Slightly off topic. I always figured that paying a fair amount of protection to a more powerful player would help if getting bullied. A stern PM to a bully can work wonders...
-
I like the idea, but it needs more thought as to how the mechanics of protection (and multiple large turfs from different players) work in practice 👍👍
-
Thanks for bring this back up, I do agree it is a good idea and can see where it would add demintions to the game. You could help others or get help in areas where you can't keep turf around. Like a mini vendetta for individual turfs .
-
Hmm it's interesting, one very big upside to it is folks would have alot harder time capping inactives. Be nice if you got notification too when they try to cap a turf you are covering too.
-
I don't like this idea because as dramabot says it would make taxing someone a double edged sword. But still its better to have some ideas not everyone will like and some that most will like then none at all
-
Maybe you should get maybe a 10% protection from the player oy are paying protection from.
Player A is taxing Player B
Player A has 100 attack 100 Defence
Player B has the same
Player B now has 110 atk/def -

Lol that's MEGA old... Submarines?!?
-
It would be a good idea if your in a local v and person a is a newb and person b is a 6k mobster and person a started a v and invited person b and person a needs his turf protected so person b puts a 86ing turf there to protect he would give money to person b for protection and attack
-
This could be a game changer, a real game changer, not sure if I like how complex it could become, but I'd like to see it maybe, the benefit of protecting inactives would be good and if you are capo of an area and the smaller mobsters in your area get hit you'd know about it sooner than when they cry about leaving the game.
-
I still really like this idea.

Good idea!

I love this idea👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥👍🔥👍🔥👍

If your getting taxed you should get a 10% defence boost of your exsisting defence like 100 def, being taxed? 110 def It dosent matter who your getting taxed by you will only get a 10% boost.

Good idea
