I had an idea.

Ok I was watching the movie "the prestige" the other night an that is a great movie and they were able to clone things like the top hats. So in real life we have cloning machines right because we use cloned cows for meat, so why not clone a bunch of gold, gems, and different stuff like that, I mean it would boost the economy.
-
It would either be illegal for everyone or only legal for the government
-
Actually wouldn't that make the economy go worse? Not tO rain on your parade but wouldn it because who would get the money,( china )jk but if more gold is cirrculated then money gets less valuable. Good idea thou correct me if I'm wrong I don't think it would help.

I love that movie.
-
Another flaw is that cloned animals are not created ready for slaughter. The cloning is done as an embryo. They still grow like other animals
-
It would just increase inflation to something like 1920's Germany.

Gems, gold and diamonds have DNA?!
-
Also you'd have to weigh the ramifications of adding significant mass to the world (since the concept also violates the first law of thermodynamics). Think about what would happen if the gravitational constant were to continuously rise?

Surely if you extracted the DNA from a diamond you'd extract the DNA the of animal or plant...Superyan wrote:

No, they don't, so cloning is the wrong word. Replication is probably the most apt word. Since gold is an element, it would probably be the easiest on that list to replicate. In theory, it would be to take trash, break it down to just it's subatomic particles (protons, neutrons and electrons) and reassemble them into gold atoms. The science to basically take trash and turn it to gold is well beyond what we have, but if could be done, we'd be on our first step to the replicators on Star Trek.Gems, gold and diamonds have DNA?!
As for the economics, gold would just lose monetary value. The economy wouldn't crash, we'd just find a new object to assign worth that couldn't be replicated, and that's even assuming replication, if possible, was cheap.

Alchemists, anyone?
-
It would cause madsive inflation. Decrease the value of precious items, and destroy the value of currency. It's only practicle on a small, private scale.
Btw, the prestige is amazing! -

Bo, but they each have a specific atomic buildup. Cloning them would be easy.Gems, gold and diamonds have DNA?!

Less valuable=Worth less.
