I heard beer tastes a little like wood, is that true?
-
Never drank wood so i wouldn't know

As with anything it will depend on the ingredients and how it's produced.

Miller Lite "vortex" bottle is the shit

Stone's Ruination is my fav beer!

I drink beers, or real ale, as we call it. A nice porter, or a quality mild. That's my bag. Mmm.

Stone is great stuff, I usually try to drink east coast but make an exception for their ipa. Having a victory hop devil right now...

What do u do Matt?

I think my fav is black sheep ale. Had it when I visited kettlewell, best drink I ever had. Shame the bottled stuff from supermarket ain't the same.

The smell of wood.

I drank maple syrup once in a master cleanse. and I've eaten hearts of palm. none of those things taste like beer.
I have a fondness for this beverage you describe. I used to live down the street from Brooklyn brewery.

For anyone that cares; I met Greg Koch the other night at a fairly intimate tasting session (less than 30 people).
Greg is super cool, very approachable & extremely passionate about brewing and the ideals that Stone Brewing was founded on. I learned a ton about the history of Stone & the development of the craft brew (formerly known as microbrew) movement in America.
Greg has a very strong stance on company ethics, pure non-processed organic foods & reducing their carbon footprint through the 3 R's (reduce, reuse & recycle).
Anyway it was a great time, & oh yeah, the beer was good too!!

What do I do as far as work? I'm a systems engineer for a defense contracting company; we design, deploy & upgrade computer systems, mostly for the Navy. What do u do Matt?
If I didn't need the money, I would probably attempt to be a brewer. I have done some home brewing on a small scale & am trying to save up for a more advanced home brew kit that would allow me to keg my own beer & skip the painful bottling process.

I've never heard of a beer that tasted like wood, but there are some pretty bizarre beers out there. The worst I have ever tasted was a Jalapeno beer...it was horrible!I heard beer tastes a little like wood, is that true?
Some extremely hoppy beers have an almost hemp-like taste, not that I've ever tasted hemp (weed) but others have told me; which makes sense cause hops & hemp are in the same family of plants.

Actually there are beers that taste & smell like wood. I completely forgot about barrel aging. Barrel aging is popular with imperial stouts & even used to impart an oaked flavor...brewers often re-use whiskey or bourbon barrels to age imperial stouts.Crabyducky wrote:

Smoke flavoring can also impart a wood-like taste/smell to a beer such as in a smoked porter or black lager.
