my old house in middle village was owned by this ornery old lady who used to hit the neighbor's kids thru the fence with sticks when they were being too frolicksome for her taste. sometimes after I flushed the toilet, I'd hear a shudder from the sink and the water would turn on. I guess to remind me to wash. I finally asked my roommate if there was a ghost and I got an "oh yeah, I didn't tell you, about that...". the end. true story.

she would also launch the broken off lid to our plastic step on kitchen garbage can. while I was cooking. sometimes it would land behind me. sometimes I would leave, hear a thwack, and it was clear across the room.
