Cracked my screen
Forums › General Discussion › Cracked my screen-
I cracked the screen on my iPhone really bad. It's still usable and I can still see everything, but it looks like ish. How hard would it be to replace the screen my self as opposed to going to the store and having it fixed professionally?

Rapidrepair.com and I'll send you the coupon code.

The front is very hard to replace. Just go to an apple store they'll fix its in 2-3 days

If you know what your doing, replacing the outer screen/digitizer is child's play, the only thing is you'd have to be careful about is cracking the LCD while either removing or replacing the screen.

I did two of them, one works great, the other... Not so good. You need tiny dexterous fingers.
Whatever you do get an otterbox next time. I dropped this pod a couple times with no damage.

Im kinda tech savvy, so I may try it on my own, but this is actually my gfs phone, so I am kinda leery of doing more damage to it. If I break it any more I may end up single with no phone lol

Of course I'm thinking of the 3rd gen, I can't be 100% sure it's the same situation if you've got a 4th gen phone. If you know what your doing, replacing the outer screen/digitizer is child's play, the only thing is you'd have to be careful about is cracking the LCD while either removing or replacing the screen.

I love otter boxes. It's to bad that they didn't make a water proof one for the iPhone 4. That would be awesome.I did two of them, one works great, the other... Not so good. You need tiny dexterous fingers.

Yea, you need concentration when it comes to dissecting this stuff, I ended up cracking my LCD for my old 3rd gen in 3 different places when looking for the source of hardware failure, those things are quite fragile. Ended up getting a brand new replacement.Shibby420 wrote:

I did a complete refurb on a 3GS, new screen, back housing, bezel, buttons. Was a hell of a job to be honest but did it all for roughly £40 - apparently apple would charge upwards of £150 for the service. The easy part was the screen replacement - you really shoudln't have a problem doing this. Check youtube for tutorials to see if you are up to the job. If you do decide to do it, just make sure you have a sticky panel on your work surface to hold the tiny screws!!!

The screens r cheap only sk if ur lucky and thts all u néed u can read online how to replace it ur selve it actually fairly easy

My wife bought a refurb iphone 4, completely shattered the front screen. It only stayed together because of her screen protector. She took it in to apple and they gave her a brand new phone with absolutely no charge at all. She just asked them what they could do for her?

Meh. Did it in under 40 min on an iPhone 3GS. No big deal. Hardest part is cleaning all the old glass shards off. Did back glass on iPhone 4--simple. Just take your time. Lots of how to's on YouTube that really help. If you have a warranty it's always a good idea to go to apple, of course, but if it's $12 versus way more then do it yourself. The front is very hard to replace. Fix it yourself! I've broke mine 5-7 times because I've never put a case on it. But it is super easy and cheap to do yourself. I just bought the parts on eBay and then watched a video on YouTube and wala. New glass! Good luck

Amen to that - if it was a less popular phone then the parts would be harder to come by, but that would be the only reason you wouldn't be able to do it. Remember that these are mass-produced devices that are put together fast on a production line. They are designed to be easy to put together.Fix it yourself!
