If you like garage rock like earlier Black Keys, check out The Pack A.D., it's a Canadian girl duo. we kill computers is an amazing album, give it a shot.

Also check out JJ Grey & Mofro. Start with a track called Georgia Warhorse.

I hate rush, and they are definitely 100 percent mainstream.
Rush has influenced most progressive rock/metal bands today. The vocalist/bassist Geddy Lee is one of the best bassists of all times. I doubt you have any musical experience.
