I've just recently started and every corner I turn I am being attacked by superior mobsters! Where's the fun in that? Does this reset at some point so that everyone starts from scratch again to give new players a chance?

The best thing to do is to send them a message asking them to kindly stop. Some people attack lower level people when they seem inactive.

In the future these types of issues should be brought up in the Help & Strategy forum ;)

Mob up and bank your cash 9 out of 10 mobsters don't use the forums and have stoped adding new mobsters. Get bigger than them and kill them.
