If you text or play TW behind the wheel you are 25% more likely to be in an accident. CAA the AAA of Canada asked to put down the phone, and pick up a video camera to show us (and your friends) why it’s important not to text and drive…
It's not just for Canadian, everyone could benefit from watching those videos. In Canada it's illegal to text while driving but everyday I see someone doing it! Why? What is so important that they can't wait until they get to their destination use their phone?

I agree. Several years ago there was a study done (that I can't find 😝) that showed drivers texting or using cell phones (not hands-free) were, on average, as responsive behind the wheel as a drunk driver. Here in Texas it's illegal to use cell phones in some areas like active school zones where designated (basically our whole town during certain hours).

In Canada the stats shows that 80% of accident are cause by distractions like texting and talking on the cell phone. It's probably the same statistic everywhere.

I think you understand the message CRN. One of the rule was to not actually drive and be distracted but some people did it anyway in their video. They probably did it in a safe environment but they have no chance of winning the big prize.

Texting While Talking Banned in New Jersey Town
Avid texters beware: Fort Lee, N.J. police said they will begin issuing USD 85 jaywalking tickets to pedestrians who are caught texting while walking.
"It's a big distraction. Pedestrians aren't watching where they are going and they are not aware," said Thomas Ripoli, chief of the Fort Lee Police Department.
Ripoli said the borough, which is home to approximately 35,000 residents, has suffered three fatal pedestrian-involved accidents this year. He hopes his crackdown on people who display dangerous behavior while walking will make his town safer, but not everyone is on board with the idea of issuing USD 85 tickets.
"When I walk I still look around. I'm not like constantly looking down the whole time," said resident Sue Choe.
Another woman complained about the tickets were "a lot of money."
Officers handed out pamphlets during a short grace period in March before they began aggressively going after "dangerous walkers."
Cont'd...

More than 117 tickets have been issued, according to the New Jersey Record.
Two professors at Stony Brook University in New York conducted a study on walking and texting. They found texters are 60 percent more likely to veer off line than non-texters.
"We want to raise awareness that a real disruption occurs because of texting," Eric Lamberg, co-author of the study, told Long Island Business News. "Texting disrupts your ability much more than does talking."

Talking on the phone while driving is one thing, I do it occasionally even though it's illegal. But texting is ridiculous! You can't keep your eyes on the road.

We had an elementary girl hit in a crosswalk on her way to school one morning. She was texting and not paying attention. The driver that hit her had the sun in his eyes and didn't see her. Thankfully the girl was ok... Just shaken up.

I applaud them for creating this law. The only thing is, I see cops that talk on their cell phone while driving their cruisers. I live near a big police station and and every morning while waiting for Transit I see one or two police driving squad cars that is on their cellphone, when they just start their shift. The people that suppose to uphold the law are breaking it as well 😒 I'm sure it's just a few bad apples in the bunch

That is the best time to text. You should see me yelling at Siri trying to send a text through my radio. And I have an app that reads me my messages too.

Hopping and driving isn't very safe either....nick, for the safety of our roadways, can we please have a "purchase all upgrades" button? I almost ran over an old lady last week while I was hopping through California and driving down the street!😜
