How did you learn?
I'm thinking I should get off my soft car driving backside and get on a bike. I had a scooter about 10 years ago, enjoyed that, but with high fuel prices, boring family cars, I think maybe I should consider getting a full licence. Any recommendations? -
Is it types of bikes your considering or which way to go about getting your licence?

Kriss - if you're going to do it then the sooner the better as the test keeps getting more and more complicated - those Dang Eurocrats. Try google for your options initially. Im a year round biker and it's the last thing I would ever give up. I often ask people why they choose to sit in a jam in a car n moan about their journey. Get a bike mate!

I hate jams too, but I see how other drivers treat bikers and I cringe, poor behaviour a lot of the time.Kriss - if you're going to do it then the sooner the better as the test keeps getting more and more complicated - those Dang Eurocrats. I'm thinking a direct access, but I'm going to have to get used to changing gear in a whole new way. -
It's the complete opposite to a car. And you're right, a lot of cars don't like to see a motorbike filter between them, I've had a few "friendly" wing mirror folds when they decided to try and stop me. Biking does have major downsides, eg. I was knocked off mine last year by a woman pulling out of a driveway who didn't see me in the daylight and my full beam on. Bring on next year so I can get a new one in a different country. 👍

You could always go and get a trial ride. I think some training schools offer them and also at some of the big uk shows like the NEC (which I didn't get to afterall this week D'oh) And yup I agree that you have to treat all other road users as idiots as a best defence method to keep you safer. EOD if you twat across a junction assuming that car full of screaming kids hasn't seen you then if u end up in hossy you have to accept some responsibility if it pulls out n u hit it. It's just a different mind set. A bit of risk is not a bad thing! Why do bungy jumpers jump?! If you're not living on the edge you're taking too much room 😜

If you fancy giving it a go, try your CBT first, get yourself a decent 125 (I can recommend a Honda Varadero 125, big bike feel) get out and get some miles under your belt, and go from there. With regards to training schools, shop around, talk to them, check out reviews. Some schools are very very good, others....... let's just say, down right dangerous!

I took a free safety course at a bike shop by my house and not only did I get like a 100 bucks off my insurance for a year but they also issue a license if you pass the course. It's much easier then the DMV test
