Any mechanics out there?

I've gone through 3 alternators in the last two days I've put two new ones in and both never worked. I've had all three tested and the original on one failed the first out of 3 test and the second two both failed the regulator test. Does anyone know whether or not there could be a short somewhere that can cause the alternator to go bad?(I drive a 2004 Mazda 3s 2.3 liter)

Search the Mazda forums, I'm sure the owners club will have more valuable information.

Bad battery, or ground connection loose can cause rapid alternator destruction.
One time, metal shavings were slowly spitting into the alternator in one of my old cars causing it to fail. Water pump did it.

This 👆. Also make sure the battery wires are not loose. Clean around the posts of the battery to rule out a bad battery.Bad battery, or ground connection loose can cause rapid alternator destruction.

Firstly check the battery, you can have it tested at the auto electrician. While you're there get them to check the wiring. Have you been replacing it with a new alternator? Is it a cheap aftermarket brand? I would go either factory brand new or reconditioned OEM.

After trying the 3rd new alternator it finally worked.. All voltage n amps are reading correctly thankfully

Presumably ur changing the xam belt with thise alternators, it may also have a prwrensioner

Above post continued the pre-tensioner Might need tightening and tge cam velt could be slipping, doubt it a short on such a young car, kinda. Check all fuses are correct amp, and theres no bulbs blowing often, probably the cam belt tho ...
