That people feel they need to point their vehicle's keyless entry remote at the vehicle to lock/unlock it?

It's a radio frequency signal people! It's omnidirectional!!

I don't know why that bugs me...it just does.

Good point, however you're usually facing your car when unlocking it, so it would be really unconvinient to point remote away from it 😉

So the extra 2 ft of your extended arm would extend the signal radius towards the car increasing it's effectiveness. Usually after pressing repeatedly when walking away and just preceding having to walk back towards it.
