This is too broad of a question. It should ask which genre was/is at its peak. For instance, im from NY and hardcore has been a huge part of my life for many years. I say 90's HC was the best, but then others will say 80's. But the 90's had what we called "toughguy" bands. Thats what made us harder than the kids today. Haha

80's or 90's

I liked the dance stuff in many varieties from mid to late 90s... Newer stuff not so much

I thought their first albums were good and then they sold outMusic was still better in the 90s. Give the 80s a hard look. It was just another version of today. Lots o teeny boppers. No real experimentation. And btw. Metallica sucks

I agree. I love jazzJazz will always have a special place in my heart. It's almost in a completely separate realm because it is the one genre I feel like words cheapen the listening experience. There are great guitarists and vocalists out there for sure, but count basie, dave brubeck, coltrane, etc., are such masters of their groups' instruments that I feel like I just had a deep, heartfelt talk with my best friend for hours without saying a word

Everything is too mainstream for everybody, just accept many people like what you like and move on. Sure current hip hop/pop is terrible, but I just hate when people say "It's too mainstream now so I'm not going to be affiliated with it anymore."

Def the 80's - punk and hip hop took off. Even the pop music was edgy.

Doesn't matter what decade, jazz has always and will always be the most artistic. Anything mainstream is not as artistic as those who make music for the sake of making music, not dollars.
I'm also fairly biased since my dad is a jazz guitarist and I've heard incredible music that most people will never know or even be able to comprehend because they have next to nothing for musical education.
My dad listens to stuff even I don't like but he thinks it's amazing, he understands it, I don't.There's nothing worse than a music snob. Total bawbags.

Kill yourself you have no taste in music UNLESS..... depends on what gene you're actually referring to....
Alot of rock songs these days aren't too bad but if you're talking about like rap hiphop r&b then yea just end your life cuz chances are you have never done anythin too fulfilling in the first place and probably won't 😒 dont mean to sound like an ass but im just sayin it like it is -

I'm not a music snob. My entire career is based off of what is mainstream today and I like it. I'm just saying people who actually play their instruments and explore/improv are more "artistic" then people who sit behind a computer arranging electronically produced sounds that they download/purchase. Or people that have good technique but all they play is power chords. My cousin is a producer and even he has picked up real instruments in exchange for making electronic beats that are cool. But for the most "artistic" I'm sorry but jazz hands down in every decade is the most artistic.Kozy wrote:

@bee Ryan, also scofield and pat metheny. Pat in my mind is one of the greatest guitar players of all time.

Most people, when they hear something too outside of the box, dont like it. I'm not saying people who have played. I'm saying people who have grown up with mainstream music like Justin beiber won't understand the sublty and complexity of truly artistic music.Easy bro,
I have the understanding for music: formal training on guitar and saxophone. I have Jammed with a wide range of players from every genres...most people can hear and understand, don't sell them short. -
It's okay, when it's in a three way! it's not gay when you're in a three way!
that's all I have to say about some recent music.
