Custom PCs are the best IMO. I'm running Windows 8 Developer Preview ATM

It depends. Macs are if you have money and like shiny buttons. PCs are for average everyday use, though Macs might be better at some things. Linux is easy to use, but also if you like programming and other tech-related stuff.

I have no problem with windows. IMO macs are way over priced for what they are.

Wow, really? Whenever I use a pc it seems like it takes twice as many steps to do something than on a Mac.

Depends what you wanna do really, macs come with alot of software out the box but it's mostly creative stuff like editing and what not.
If you wanna do gaming or just normal internet surfing then pc all way

I can buy a nicer pc for 600 bucks and spend the other 400 on much nicer programs.

With a PC I can add a nicer game card, another harddrive. Virtually anything.

Mac, yes it's expensive, because it's well made, far less succeptable to viruses, has a load of decent software pre installed when you buy it, they need little to no maintainence and generally don't go wrong. That's my (very biased) opinion but I put mg money on it. Self confessed Apple junkie.
