Don't go near schools. The female teachers get out of control when firefighters are on campus.

I've got many friends that are fire fighters: when people are running away from fire, firefighters are running into that fire. So my advise would be to make sure you understand that. You'll get get/shown/learn all about that in your training.

Keep a cool head?
Seriously it's hard work physically and mentally. So long as you realise that you'll be cool -
Listen, learn, don't give up

Listen to the instructors and learn from the experienced hands. Keep your head down and work hard you'll be fine. Pm me if you want to know anything. 🚒💦🔥

Get in shape 💪

Remember there's more to it than just fire. Don't do it if you have a delicate stomach and can't handle some gore. And make sure you are prepared for the psychological aspects or you'll burn out/become an alcoholic.
But it's a great profession for pulling. I don't know any women that would say no to a hot fireman.
Good luck

I thought you were 14...

I've become good friends w. our local firehouse (they're awesome)... One thing I never appreciated before is the very high rates of cancer amongst firefighters - makes sense: they are routinely exposed to high levels of toxic fumes. It's worth knowing that before deciding if you're still willing to commit to that profession.

Have you ever been on a ride-along or done any work experience with the fire services? If not, do that so you have an idea of the reality of the job. It's not nearly as sexy or glamourous as it looks on the telly. It's bloody hard work

It is a great job though. Mortality is a lot lower now than it was years ago with better equipment and procedures. Your colleagues will get you through the tough jobs. Not many rap it in.

Thanks guys for all the info im already about halfway done with school so any good advice is welcome

If it gets too fkn hot, lie on the floor and stick a couple of sprays over yet head.

Never understood why this is so popular. It messes up thermal layering, may push the hotter layers down on you. Ruins what little visibility you may have. Ontop of it all now your being steamed and cooked now.If it gets too fkn hot, lie on the floor and stick a couple of sprays over yet head.
My advice would be opposite, kiss the floor and get to the seat of fire and put it out.

I'd really try to get in on some ride alongside if you haven't had type of experience yet, or if you live in a vollies jurisdiction join them. Would suck if you put all the time into academy and realize the fire service isn't for you.

Ride alongs*

All depends on the size of the particles, the cone angle, pressure and number of bursts. Get it right and your safe as houses. Get it wrong and your boil in the bag.FFEdge wrote:

Not to say it's wrong since I've known many people that are fans of doing this. But, I'll never do it. Makes no sense to me.
