I'm more concerned with the iPod touches which I'm now hearing womt be getting a significant and much needed upgrade. If apple abandons me in the market I may be forced to abandon them

Yeah. But to not upgrade the iPod when everyone else gets a better processor. Their point I they're releasing 2 phones. One of them cheaper. So everyone should get an iPhone. The iPod is agonizingly slow and desperately needs an upgrade. As of now it's so slow an the screen is so small that it's barely functional

I have the 4th iPod touch, it's not that slow. It functions pretty well for me.

It doesn't for me. My main problem is the screen is too small. iPhone is getting a screen size increase of 0.3 inches. iPod needs the same. And a quad core processor

Battery life is good with wifi n 4g. Average with them on.

Which touch do you have? We have a 4 amd it seems to be fine...for a touch. Not as fast as an iPhone...which isn't as fast as my iPad. That just seems to be the deal. But the 4gen touch is close to what my 3GS used to be.

Yeah, I'm comparing within the iFamily...tough to make a comparison to something else I don't have.

I think the point of releasing 2 iPhone versions is to not only offer a cheaper stripped down version of iPhone but to offer an intermediate between phone and music device. Knowing apple they will take a touch and give it data calls and call it 4S. Which I guess from their pov would make sense. Whatever they do, Amazon is heavily breathing down their neck with the Kindle Fire going official today. It looks like a serious competitor to iPad at half the price. They'll really need to pull something out the bag to maintain Market share in all 3 sectors, mobile, music and tablet.
