Iran might send ships off coast of united states
Forums › General Discussion › Iran might send ships off coast of united states-
I was just reading this story online and I thought it was some sort of joke but I checked some of the popular us news sites and it seems to be true. Iran might eventually have ships off the us maritime coast. Hmmmm I find that very strange..
Do you think the us would allow this?http://www.foxnews.mobi/quickPage.html?page=22995&external=1136028.proteus.fma

Why not? 12 miles off the coast is international waters; The USSR keeps thier Aluka attck subs thier and they track US ship movements out of Norfolk, VA. I am saying this is right, but please everybody watches other people's ports. Remember Pearl Harbor? The US Navy will never let that happen again.

I understand that's why we will have our navy between the US border and irans ships I'm sure the US military will be on alert,

Even though I wouldnt call Iran's ships a 'navy', they would not stand a chance in a real fight. -

Sorry about the USSR reference, I grew up in Germany where they had about 12 tank divisions parked across the border from Fulda. Old habits are hard to break; they are not the same as before the unification in 1990. My point is that we watch thier ports and they watch ours. He who control the seas controls the world. Ask the Brits; they ran most of the seven seas for 400 years...

I think it's control the skies you control the war.

Do you mean AKULA, Russian for Shark, Fast Attack subs? Yes, I meant the Akula. For this reason: the air craft carrier. Carriers are what task forces are built around. Lose your carrier...good luck winning any battles. The Kilo is whisper-silent, I agree, good for a one-off. The other subs have weakness (noisy) that sonar ( broadband) can expose. The Akula does it all, and should be taken seriously.thepunk wrote:

Haha the USSR comments were classic. Especially from the smart people in the thread. Anyways what people do need to consider here, as has been said, it is hardly a navy by western standards. It's just more of a message. Which is actually understandable considering the joint US/Europeon/UN, naval fleet off the coast of their shores that's been there for years now. I'm blanking on the numbers, but I believe their are well over 30 destroyers, 20-40 battleships, and at least a dozen aircraft carriers, between somalia, iraq, Iran, and Saudi. I'm sure that number is wayyyy low. I just can't remember it exactly.
-
I would hardly feel threatened by their ships. A wrong move and their fleet could be wiped out. I have complete faith in our military. Look what happened last few times someone attacked the U.S., won't look to promising to them.
