I know I've seen a few post about computer help so just would like to know what I'm looking at.
It's a hp laptop few years old, running vista 64bit.
Forever it wouldn't charge the battery,
Recently it freezes if I have to much open at time I need to unplug. My real problem. Lastnight I was goin thru some work, making tuning programs, listening to music. I had a few to many programs running however when I shut it down it was fine.
-
This morning I went to turn it on. I get a error saying windows won't load, I press f11(system recovery) I loads up but I can't choose anything. So I press alt/ctrl/del reset and I'm getting a error (disk read error use alt+ctrl+del)
I don't have the recovery cd's
I was going to order them however I've been told it could be a hd,motherboard, CPU or processor.I use the laptop for work. It makes me my big buck. Lol it's like a lucky charm I've made so my hp with this laptop. Worth a fix or get new?
Btw I really don't need much more then what it is. Besides most programs I runs are xp or vista only
-
Almost forgot at one time it was looping at startup. It would goto the vista logo n re-start
-
Sounds like your Hard drive took a crap. See if you can get to boot as in safe mode or the last good boot
-
Why are you using Vista? get xp or w7 🙍..

You could just have a corrupt hard drive. If got not to bothered about loosing the fils on it I would take the cheap option to see if you can get windows reinstalled. (like u said its your lucky charm) if that fails buy a new one!

It's 3-3.5 years old.

I just got a sick ass deal on HP direct for a dv7-6195us with free upgrades for a blu-ray drive, 8 gigs of ram, a terabyte of storage all on an i7 quad core processor. with stupid stuff like a couple graphics cards, fingerprint scanner, and it comes in an aluminum shell. they even threw in a free xbox. also I'm poor and can't afford the fancy shit. buy a new one, do yourself a favor. I saw new egg run it for like 11 something. I got it for waaaaaaaay less. find yourself a deal and ditch the banjaxed shit.

A copy of vista + possible new hd or buy a new laptop.... Depends how you are fixed...
-
I just bought a ASUS gaming desk top, quad core, with duel top end nvidias, with 16 gigs ram, terabyte.... Pretty much mama tek's system, with a other things, like free speakers, audio card, etc.. 1750 from newegg. Except I did switch out a few of those parts myself. Even then that's the price I paid.

If you are getting a disk error double check in the bios (usually F2 on startup) and then to see if it is detecting the HDD. If it's not, check the connections. A disk error usually mean the HDD has packed up. Recovering files can be difficult but I'd recommend you get a HD caddy and check connectivity via UsB. If you need any help, let me know.
If you need a new HDD I have a shed load of 80gb laptop drives and also a good copy of Win7 enterprise 64-bit complete with genuine key. If you are in the UK I can send you both (for free). -

Also, depends on how well you backup. If you're 1 of them guys that never partitions their HDD and dumps everything in the windows folder, bad practice, very difficult to recover data. Chances are windows partition drive has corrupt sectors hence boot failure. If you have partitions you can install the HDD as a secondary drive and gain access to all areas of the HDD except where data has been currupted. If you are getting a disk error double check in the bios (usually F2 on startup) and then to see if it is detecting the HDD. It sounds like your MBR ( master boot record) is corrupted, based on what you said earlier.
Your best bet to fix that is to borrow someone's else Windows Cd ( or a Linux cd) and run the rescue console. You need some information first: your windows admin account password. Type in fixboot/MBR and chosse yes. Let that run. Restart your pc. That should work. Let me know if you need help. -

HP laptops are well known to have issues with the motherboard soldering! If it gets really hot the temperature causes the solder to loosen and particular connections are lost causing the laptop to freeze and in some cases not able to turn it on. The repair is quite expensive at around £300-£400 compared to the price of the laptop. Your best best would be to purchase a new (non HP) laptop. It's will intermittently work but will gradually get worse as the solder becomes weaker. Hope this helps....

U may wanna try removing the battery and starting the laptop up on corded power and see what happens. Windows does weird things if a battery dies and is still connected.
-
I have a old hd that was working I'm going to try that. Also I was offered a copy of xp from a friend.
Hp is a big problem! Every hp or compaq I had always ran hot this is the 2nd laptop that went out and I also lost the desktop I used for my dynometer
I have a Sony but I paid to much to bring it around grease all day.
If all else fails I will be looking into something new. I'd just hate to spend then money knowing I could break it day one.

Well I work for BP and after the whole deep horizon oil spill that went down, we were required to keep hold of all data. So any leavers, we had to retain the hard drives. Now that the case is closed (from a sabotage perspective), I have hundreds of 2.5" drives.... I work in IT.αϻɳεʑ 🍀 wrote:

Well that's pretty cool, I work in IT but don't get such things as freebes, lol. Dont they have to be disposed of in a certian way? Because it contains customer data?
