Google Talk vs Skype

I'm a big fan of things google. Never really used skype before But I know lots of people who do. Anyone know of advantages/disadvantages of one over the other?

They both have their merits. Skype is a stand alone application which can only run on win/Mac/*nix systems while google talk runs in browser. I personally don't care to have gtalk and gmail integrated, but that's just my preference. Gtalk allows free calls within the USA, Skype charges for all calls (last time I checked). Quality should be comparable.

I've had my skype account for three years and it's great for me (friends in other places). I manage some Google Apps at work and it's awesome for Sync and gmail and Talk (esp. mobile) so there is nothing wrong with having both because the cost is very low.

Skype. If you open it, then X out of it, you still get calls.

If you x out of it, it just minimizes. There's no point in Xing out of it.

When u get your new android, tango, I've been loving it, if you do your calls while at home you can use your wifi. Effectually free! And video calls too

Viber on the iPhone does that.

Actually, Viber for the iPhone is free Wherever You Are, needs internet though, so if You use 3G and don't have free usage it's expensive :S

Awesome. I'll keep both handy. Talk came preinstalled and since it's an android device I'm using and my wife uses gmail it just like auto found her and I had my first net video call. We were 5 five feet away from eachother but still! I'll keep skype handy as well but talk was super easy to figure out and just worked.
