It's a good book. Children stuck on an island. After a good start they seperate into different factions and get nasty. The themes are generally coming of age, the darkside of humanity and civilisation V barbarity. The kids think there is a monster on the island as indicated by the books title a Hebrew phrase for the devil - there is evil on the island it's the kids. Quite dark. It supports Thomas Hobbes suggestion that without civilisation mans natural state would be a state of war.

Just listen to the Iron Maiden song on The X Factor cd.

I want to read a sequal where aliens make a cyborg Piggy wake up in the year 2050, and he exacts his wonton revenge.
But that's just the kind of book I'd like....
-
Wow ttt, I hope you didn't read that off of somewhere because that's hella impresive!
-
Sucks to your assmar! (My favorite part) btw, I agree w/ everyone, it's a great book.
-
Nah I read it in school - I'm an idealist so I really dispute Goldings outlook. Rousseau's conception of the state of nature is more fitting. We would naturally peacefully coexist if it wasn't for 'civilisation'. Civilisation/modernity has created the real posibility/impitus for the evil that Golding/Hobbes presumes. The inheritors sorta makes this point homosapiens kill off the more base but kinder neanderthuls (close enough).

I never liked this book. I thought it was really disturbing, which is strange considering I love horror books & movies - especially gory ones!

P. S. Do your homework & read the book! 😄 You might actually like it & could be missing out if you don't read it.

Yea I agree. It's a very dark protrayal of humankind. I'm always surprised that it has become a 'school book'. Golding was a very dark man... Last year his biographer claimed that Golding had attempted a rape when he was in 1st year uni. Projection!!I never liked this book. I thought it was really disturbing.

Projection? So you're saying the biographer was the one that actually attempted rape?Mystery wrote:

No i mean Golding was projecting his darkness on to humanity in general. You can't libel the dead.
-
I only saw the movie (like I do with almost every non-assigned book lol). I don't that one of the kids died, very sick.
