It clearly is not the same. And more customization is just personal preference, not need. And style is way lacking on cheap knock-offs, YOU may not notice, but it's very true.
Why are you trying to fuck me, Mom? Everyone knows that everything but iPad is shit!

I love my iPad and I do use iBooks. I also installed kindle app to buy a friends book online....
So, to conclude, use both apps to avoid any disappointment? I don't see what the big deal is.
And like it or not, apple will be around for longer than we will be. -

Go write a blog.

And there's the fact that the kindle app can have no mention that a website exists. To newbies it seems like you can't even buy books. So where do they go? They go to iBooks with it's misspellings and weird characters due o poor formatting. All so apple can suck more money from the consumer without giving a thing back.

And anyway, both systems look very similar to me.
Like I said, the bulk of my reading is done on paper... I use my iPad to record hot woman on trains/planes/automobiles, not reading Lord of the Rings trilogy while spanking it to Frodos feet... -

I always saw the kindle app as secondary to my kindle anyway. It's a shame u can't buy on the go anymore but I can wait until I have a wifi signal and use my kindle instead. I have always loved books And as for the real / ebook debate I see it like this: a kindle is to books what DVD is to the cinema. If I want and experience I go to the cinema or read a 'real' book. If I want convenience, portability and cost-effectiveness I'll go for a DVD or ebook etc. There is a place for both, and I use both equally.

B: get the kindle app for your android. Walk to the nearest table and lay down the apple device. Problem solved. Have a nice day.

I always have my three devices in hand - my iphone, my kindle, and my iPad - so i don't really care. the kindle is tiny and weighs next to nothing. each meets a unique nerd "need" I have. I love my toys and am just fine with having all three with me. they are each "my preccciioouus."
looking on the bright side, I rarely have need for my laptop or mini when mobile. ☺☺☺
apple is making business decisions to benefit themselves and maintain control over income streams. if I was at apple managing the amazon business, I'd do the same thing. it's just a business decision and a wise one from a corporate standpoint, imho. as a customer.... *shrugs.*

well said. i treasure my library of "analog" books and still add to it. I have another enormous kindle library. I love both though my kindle had admittedly saved me soooo much space. still, the kindle cannot quite replicate the wondeful tactile enjoyment of cracking open a big new book.I always saw the kindle app as secondary to my kindle anyway.
