Today I found out a good friend has a type of blood cancer and will need a bone marrow transplant to have any chance of survival.

Unfortunately there are not nearly enough bone marrow donors in the uk( and abroad too). I would urge everyone to think about becoming a donor. In the uk the donor register is managed by the Anthony Nolan Trust. Their website explains the whole process.

If this seems like too much of a commitment why not go and donate blood instead? It's quick and easy and barely hurts.

Not everyone can donate blood or bone marrow but most people can donate organs. If you carry an organ donor card make sure you discuss your wishes with your next of kin because they will be asked for consent before any organs are removed.

I tried to donate blood but cuz I was born on a military base and lived in Germany to long they wouldn't let me, I would donate but they won't let me

Relatives are actually the most likely to have the same bone marrow/blood. Ask them to try.

Yeah, that would be a good system I think.
But I think some religions don't allow it and many people are suspicious about organ donation too so don't want to be donors.

I've been curious about donating bone marrow, my husband isn't so sure it's a good idea. I've also heard it's painful but that's not too big of a deal for me. I'm curious what the stipulations are...we donated my son's eyes... And yea ya never really know if they will make it to whomever.. But I guess I have to believe it's all legit. Hats off to all that donate anything for a cause.

I'd donate. But I've got a year or two for my bones to recover from chemopheapy.
