An imaginary "pay it forward", the debt version...
Let's pretend that I get a call from some big time money bags and this person says "I'm not going to pay off a piece of your debt, but I will for one person you *know*, and *only one debt.* Who and what do you choose?"
I'd choose to have my parents house paid off. :)
What would you do?
-
My brothers hospital bill. Didn't take him to the VA after an accident and now he's $30,000 in debt. Ex-marine and now working on college degree.
-
My girlfriend does a lot of volunteer work for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society so I'd prolly pick one of the patients with huge bills.
-
I brought this up the other day to my wife in another way. I have decided one of these days I will just hand someone a bunch of cash under the condition they tell me what they did with it. I think it would be fun to do once a year.
I gave Bella some money. I think many here did. Wish I could have gave more.
If I could pay off any dept it would be the dept humanity owes to the earth and fellow creatures on this planet.
I would not pay off the debt of the person I know. Many already have including me. We have spent tens of thousands over the last thirty years. My lesson has been that certain people are like fires. To give them them money solves nothing. People are responsible for themselves.

If I had this money I would pay for to help a young person get the education, tutoring, time, counciling, and security to get their education and accomplish their dream. Whatever the debt it would be taken care of. I would be there to help them in any way possible. Hmm. That sounds like parenting. Yeah, hopefully I can be a parent.
Nonprofits need volunteers as much as money. I will volunteer more. I will recommend others do the same. Oh, I do that now. Hmm.

I would support people in my community by shopping at locally owned business, local farmers markets, supporting local clothing, furniture, appliance dealers, designers, artists, poets and writers, and my community. I would make purchases that would reduce environmental impact and support people ethically and the way I would want to be treated. Local restaurants only and nonprofits every chance I get. Hmm. I do that.
-
Maybe I will keep my eyes and ears open and an open heart. If I see someone in need I will reach out, take them under my wing, help by listening, pray for them at night. Encourage them in a positive way and believe in them and let them know it. I would do this every chance I had. Hopefully, my optimism in the darkest of times would bring in a little light. Hmm. I think these people would be my friends. I choose to love.
I think long ago I choose to love or this compassionate feeling chose me. I know not which. I am not a 'believer' in any religion. If this feeling comes from god then I simply listen to it. This love carried me through dark times in my own life. I always follow it's heed. If it is a debt then I will gladly pay it for no reason. I started with nothing. I will end with nothing; however, these things I do are evidence of who I am. This will be my afterlife. These deeds remain.

Hmm. I don't know that I ever adequately answered the question. Perhaps, open a scholarship fund or a research grant? Maybe, help older people do what I would do for the younger person and give them a second, or however many chances?
-
I would help this 'big time money bags' help people. I would refuse the money and offer that. I can help everyone I have time for without the money. Perhaps, someone can do better than I with the money.

Support a project that helps single mothers with many issues?
-
I would pay the queens debt so the bitch can get rid of the British recession

Wow Ik, a lot of thought was put into that. You'd love Batel's brother. He's huge into buying everything local. Last year, every Christmas gift they gave out was from something locally owned. I got a bunch of passes to 1984 in downtown Springfield.
As for me, I'd give money to a family I know who I have been close to for 5 years. The father was a good friend of mine and he cheated on/walked out on his wife of ten years and their two great children. This was one of those marriages that just crumbled in an instant that you would've never seen coming. Either way, he moved to Florida for a job and she was left behind with a mortgage she couldn't afford alone and two children. I'd help that family, who deserve so much better than what they got.

I would dig your brother-in-law. I have not been to 1984. What is that? I'll go see it next time.
I dig this thread. Doing exactly these kinds of things is a big part of my life. Thanks Batel. You inspired me and also gave me a little perspective into myself. I needed that today. 😋

My wife (Batel) is fantastic. 1984 is across the street from the downtown YMCA. It's an arcade with nothing but arcade games from the 1980's. It's 5 bucks to get in and you can stay as long as you want. It was pretty sweet.Turf🐑Warrior👊🔨💀 wrote:

There's a family I know with a gorgeous daughter who has many disabilities similar to my oldest son's but they've gone unaddressed as they haven't had nearly half (ok, a quarter, if that) the benefits/income we've had. I'd pay for this girl to have her issues addressed in addition to whatever she needs to get her where she could be today...surgery, outpatient services, plus a much needed car to get them there, etc.

THe problem with that is your wanting to control what you give for. You'll never have a good outcome that way. Give freely and NEVER expect a return. Never loan, always give. I've learned through many disappointments (and caused many as well, in my younger days). If I had this money I would pay for to help a young person get the education, tutoring, time, counciling, and security to get their education and accomplish their dream. ... U sound like bob brown. "I'll help the earth and the creatures. We will live trees. Eat only mushrooms. And drink not from the rivers as tht will upset the salmon."
I dont like the green party
I'd pay off my parents mortgage. Is my answer.

I work for a non-profit. The people I serve are angels. I would give them everything I got to let them work thier gifts of love. With no worries.
It should not take money to do what we do but if somebody gave me the chance to help us do more...no brainer. -
Id pay off my upcoming college debt in advance

Lol. Uh, okay? Are you going to say what you would do? Thanks for critiquing my humanitarianism though. Appreciate it. Lmfao.Mr. Ikslopot wrote:

Nobody I know, but I might seek out a family with high medical bills from an ailing child.

Open up a homeless shelter on the downtown east side if Vancouver.

I'm the opposite of iks. I would only hive money to someone I know. I absolutely do not believe in blind charity but I've always been very charitable to my friends as those are the people that matter.
