That boy that was murdered in Brooklyn was just horrible. His body was chopped up. It was his first time walking home alone, he was 8

Well... Not saying I'm not sad... But an 8 year old, in Brooklyn, walking alone... That's just begging for something to happen. That boy that was murdered in Brooklyn was just horrible. His body was chopped up. It was his first time walking home alone, he was 8

What kind of sick person could do that? People these days are fu**ed up.
-
Hmm. 10 I think. Sometimes alone, sometimes w/ friends.
-

NEW YORK — An 8-year-old Brooklyn boy who got lost while walking home alone from day camp in his Orthodox Jewish neighborhood was killed and dismembered by a stranger he had asked for directions, and his remains were found stuffed in a trash bin and the man’s refrigerator, police said Wednesday.
The gruesome killing of Leiby Kletzky shocked the tight-knit Hasidic community in Borough Park, in part because it is one of the safest sections of the city and because the man under arrest is himself an Orthodox Jew.

Wow. I started walking home or riding my bike at age nine. Would I allow my kids to do that? Good question.
-
Like kindergarten or 1st grade. My house is like maybe a 10 min walk from the elementary school and it's straight down one street.
-
If you don't need to why take a chance always walk in two or mom or dad take you. This world is not like it should be. Sad
-
Kindergarten for me, but that was in a small Ohio town in the 1960s
-
That is terrible
-
I think I was already 12, and my school was 4 short blocks away.
But I see little 2nd and third graders walking home cuz they have working parents that don't want to or can't pay a baby sitter. I know of these two kids like that that would stay home alone at that age and cook by themselves!!! They are teens now. -
Btw, from the thread title, I thought this would possibly be something dirty. 😳
-
I live in Texas; nothing is ever close enough to walk to. We had school buses.

I've always rode the bus. There are some weird people here in Mississippi. They've just started putting lights in the parks the past few years because several women have been raped while jogging on the trails.
-
I was in first grade and I'm sure it was nothing like it is in busy New York...but I would never let my child these days.. Times have changed way too much..very sad about the boy.

Ok so the suspect pleaded not guilty, and he said he hears voices and has hallucinations. He lived in the attic of his parents place.

I've never seen a black hacidic jew in borough park, no. sometimes you see a random blonde or ginger kid and they stick out like a sore thumb.this story is terrible and awful. my son attends public school. he is 9 and will be entering 4th grade this fall. He still gets dropped off to school even though it's literally out his front door. He knows the streets around his apartment and also the west village as well as I do. And even though I'd stroll Into town and shoplift stuff when I was 8, I think I'm just overprotective.

MD - 6 years old (5 min walk)
NY - 9/10 years old
This is why I don't watch the news, it's just sick, sad, and depressing, especially since I have relatives that age (7-9). I remember being that age as well smh.
Speechless.
-
this is surprising because I think of the hats in boro park as being such a closed community. nothing comes in and nothing goes out. except for the time I had to take the hacidic bus to suffern. that was a trip. being, well... me. with them.
