My core i5 2400 with 4gb RAM, 250gb hard drive, and thermaltake v4 black edition case is complete! I'll be adding a better graphics card later when I've saved up more money but for now, this should do. Just installing Ubuntu 11.04 now (don't have the $ for windows 7 yet). Though I have to say, the only reason I want to buy windows 7 is for games, other than that, it's all Ubuntu for me.😝

Great work..if you can get in with Linux all power to you

Will 250gigs be enough? I have two terabytes and and have around 500 gigs taken
-
Iggy, I have a copy of windows 7 enterprise 64-bit.... Your welcome to a copy (with genuine key) if you'd like.
Alternatively, we have just received our end if life laptops at work, but since we still use windows XP, all of the Windows 7 professional keys on the bottom of the laptops have not been activated so your welcome to one ofthose also. Pm me -
I like you iggy.... But your a nerd lol....

Unity sucks. Gnome 3 sucks.
Does this depress you like it does me, Iggy?

You could have got an AMD 6 core for the price of the i5. What made you go with Intel? Give a bit more info, break sown the speak :)

I'm a fan of the new intel processors. Not yet received any new amd processors to benchmark so cannot compare.
However, the difference between the i5 and i7 processor is very slim. -

Just woke up. Anyway, I know I could have bought an AMD phenom for the same price, but I like sandybridge (integrated graphics will keep me going for now). It's a salvaged hard drive, cause I don't have a large amount of $ after buying all the parts. So if I need a bigger one, I'll order in the future. Will 250gigs be enough? I have two terabytes and and have around 500 gigs taken

Yeah my school laptop has windows 7 product key on the bottom, but the downside being that its 32 bit version. Thanks for the offer. I'll give it some thought.Iggy, I have a copy of windows 7 enterprise 64-bit.... Your welcome to a copy (with genuine key) if you'd like.

😖 ew. Yeah I know I miss some of the old features of Ubuntu 10.10 (such as the toolbar add ons). Plus, I'm still a teen where as your probably doing actual work on your os 😜.Iggy 🌊 wrote:

Gnome 2 wasn't broken, and distros are getting extremely bloated and dumbed-down.
It's turning into Windows.

Gnome 2 was the bomb when I first tried it. Ubuntu 10.10 (I think its gnome 2) is a lot more customizable than 11.04. Hopefully, the next version will be better.

Overall Intel are more powerful and faster, but the obvious downside is a heftier price is comparison to AMD. The phenom 2 X6 is comparable to the i7, for half the price there not more than 20-30% performance difference. My integrated graphics card is ok, it handles mw2 fine but I'm also looking to get a new dedicated card soon and take advantage of AMDs crossfireX.VADAN wrote:

Its not the rams fault at all. 4gigs DDR3 at 1333mhz.. It seems to work okay but drops down to 1fps (or even 0) and 1 chunk update, and then shoots back up. It gets progressively worse until the game is completely unplayable (well more than it was at the start)Iggy 🌊 wrote:

That's very weird. What's the igc spec for that mobo? I'd have thought they'd all be pretty similar. Like I said, mine handle mw2 perfectly, intact it handles mafia 2 and portal 2 great as well, I do get severe lag with gta 4 though. It caps max 500mb from my ram n rest is pretty standard. Have u checked the drivers?VADAN wrote:

Yeah I did the autocheck thing Ubuntu has but it didn't come up with anything. Now I'm scouring the Internet to see if I can find some intel hd 2000 graphics drivers for Linux.

I'm in the process of building mine. My neighbor brought home an assload of parts from his office at Toshiba :D
Intel i7(free) processor, can't remember the name of the graphics card, Asus case, and 12 gigs of ram.
And it's a laptop 0.0 -

I've got an Athlon quad-core with a terabyte or two of memory and 4gb RAM. Also got 64 bit windows 7 and an HD graphics chip/card/whatever you want to call it.

Well Iv decided to give up on Ubuntu for now and just use that windows 7 pro license sticker on the bottom of my laptop. just installing windows 7 64-bit now. It worked fine with 32 bit after I installed the drivers so I'm pretty sure my issue in Ubuntu is drivers. I'll just wait til I buy a descrete graphics card to try Ubuntu again. Thanks for the help though Vadan.Iggy 🌊 wrote:
