How to: Video streaming
Forums › General Discussion › How to: Video streaming-
Right so for some time now I've been testing out different methods and apps for video streaming to my iPhone 4. I have found the perfect solution.
In app store there is an app called AIR VIDEO, it's £1.79 but well worth the pennies. Download and install it, don't setup yet.
Go to airvideoapp.com and download an install the server software to your mac or PC, it's free. Once installed start the server and choose your destination folder, I have mine set to my movies folder, this part is now complete.
Go back to your device app and add a server, you just need the mac or PC name, or you can use the IP if you know it. It'll varify and connect. Bingo you're done.

You can now browse the directory you added to the server from your device. For viewing there's 2 options. 1. Convert will compress the file an transfer it to your device. 2. You can live stream (what I wanted). Now, sit back, relax and watch all the films from your PC on your iPhone. And ofcourse, it works on iPad which is even better for those who have one. In addition, if you have a TV out cable, just plug your device in and watch the live stream on te big screen. Any questions?

I forgot to add, in the server there's an option to activate A server IP, so you can access your directory from another PC using Internet (not tried it yet).

The file is converted and compressed constantly right? Because it sounds like it transfers after the recording session. But props foe the thread anyway, I've been trying to fins out how to do this.

StreamToMe also works great for this, I've been using it a while now with no problems :) Same deal with AIR VIDEO, download app, install software on computer and you're good to go :)

I'm not sure on the conversion procedure as I only want to stream wirelessly on my home network, it does that really well. Obviously it would depend on your Internet connection, on my 20mb I get no lag or buffer issues. I'll try a conversion to see how it goes n post the result. The file is converted and compressed constantly right? Because it sounds like it transfers after the recording session. It's on my trial list, looks better to be honest as it supports audio stream too. I just use itunes and remote for that but will give it a try none the less.StreamToMe also works great for this, I've been using it a while now with no problems :) Same deal with AIR VIDEO, download app, install software on computer and you're good to go :)

I LOVE Air Video!!!!!!! Been using it for a while.

Are any of these files dangerous? I have a bizarre Internet system that if something dangerous, dirty or illegal is downloaded, I'll lose my Internet service for my house.

But you can only live stream if your kn the same wifi network right??? I couldn't imagine streaming a movie through 3G somehow 😺😺 will give it a go though for iPad, sounds pretty handy

Yup. U do have the option for remote server access though so you could technically stream in safari, however, you then have to wonder how the file would play cos air video has a built-in viewer that handles most formats. But you can only live stream if your kn the same wifi network right??? I tried Air Video last night and it's pretty good! Where StreamToMe struggles with 720p HD Air Video was flawless, no "buffering". Tried a few videos with subtitles but no luck there so far. Still top marks for flawless HD streaming. Cheers for the heads up!
