Does anyone else here do it? It's pretty fun, it's GPS based, and it gets you out of the house. Go to www.geocaching.com for more info on it, and if you are ever in the fort Riley area hit me up.

Haha I cache. We actually put a trackable in each person in the wedding parties thank you gift bags and we are having an international race. They are racking up quite the mileage.

🙋🙍 I am a geocacher. My cousin got me into it. Found all of them in my area.
-
Billy the next time I'm in claremore we should go do some hunting.

I did. It works.

Can someone explain it to me? It seems interesting.

Started because it added to my hiking. Turned the old hum drum hike into a sort of scavenger hunt. A person hides a box or container somewhere. Either in the woods or out in the city (woods are more fun mostly). Then they post it's gps location on line. And you follow the coordinates and find the hidden item. Sometimes there's loot ...take something (keychain or and item of some sort) and leave another item in its place. Sometimes there's no loot and it's a tiny log book you just sign. I garuntee you you've walked by dozens and have no idea they're even there. -

Absolutely correct. I don't live in a very populated area and there are like 300 or so within a ten mile radius.Eyecu wrote:

My family has done it. We haven't done it lately though. Last time we went caching we went to Grenada, MS.
-
It's a good way to get the kids outta the house and into the woods as well.
-
what is the app called?
-
Ummm just search geocaching...it's not cheap but it's because most people use a hand held gps As it i's more accurate then the iPhone by alot. No app i's needed but there i's one...
-
Been doing it for a few years now, even though lately I've been a slacker at it since my Colorado got stolen.
The iPhone app isn't bad, but not as accurate as a good handheld.
-
I've had great luck with the iPhone app. The design and the function work reall well. Certainly worth the 10 bucks.
Caching in general is awesome..for so many reasons. -
I'm wary of looking suspicious to outsiders...snooping around. I read the cops can take an interest. Any tips?
-
Me and my friend found one once. Walked right ontop of it. So we desided to try geocashing. The next box we found contained weed. We quit after that.
-
Longest one I've gone for took me three and a half hours hiking through thick brush up hill. I finally got to it and it was 35 feet off an unmarked country road.

As long as you aren't on private property that doesn't allow geocaching you should be all right. I'm pretty sure that most cops have encountered geocaching before, so If you explain to them what it is it should be ok. If they ask you to leave, then just leave... As for outsiders, they will either do nothing, ask you what you are doing, or call the cops. Just make sure that if you are caching on private property then it is specified and allowed in the description of the cache. On geocaching.com there is a list of rules somewhere that specifies exactly what acceptable places for caches are, and I'm sure you could find more tips related to this there.I'm wary of looking suspicious to outsiders...snooping around. Hobo drugs or anything else non family oriented is strictly prohibited. I garuntee that was a prank or kids just screwing around. I would have notified the owner of the cache and had them come clean it out. The I phone app I'd great or park and grabs or city caches but out in the woods the accuracy is drastically reduced. And as for looking suspicious as someone said all caches in order to be recognized by groundspeak and posted on the geocaching website it has to be on public property or permission from the owner of the land had to be given. Cops know what geocaching is...you'll be fine.

I used to do it. I was doing it for a year. One time I found a dead bird wrapped in a paper towel in one of the locations.

Jesus you guys have some terrible muggles. Between me and the wife we've done hundreds and never found anything gross or weird really. A couple destroyed or washed out ones but nothing terrible.
