When you travel, and use taxis throughout the world, you realize how knowledgeable and professional are the Black Cab drivers. Did you see the final episode of Amazing Race where the guy lost the race and a million dollars because the taxi driver in Los Angeles couldn't understand English?!

I didn't but it's nice to hear from someone else that we are knowledgeable. I must admit the 3 years it took me to learn the knowledge were very stressful but does definitely make the job alot easier to deal with. We can't rely on SatNavs with all the new developments being built! Not looking forward to next years Olympics though....yes it will keep me happy from an income point of view but I only know Spanish as an alternative language so may struggle with some punters I get in my cab ;-)When you travel, and use taxis throughout the world, you realize how knowledgeable and professional are the Black Cab drivers. @marky...as with most groups, there are a lot o criminals in your black cab family, with knowledge comes the power to take advantage of the tourists by taking a lOnger route, windier road.. Don't be that person...one of your 'mates' came across me one day, and I knew how to get where I was going, even though I am a bloody 'yank'...(& proud) ...all I'm saying, have integrity... That cabbie still remembers me!!!

I agree with you. There are alot of drivers who abuse their position. I am part of a company that can actually trace our locations and routes taken as we have financial institutions and high profile companies that use us on a regular basis. I for one always begin by asking a customer if they have a preferred route to begin with and am frequently asked if I can be their driver on a regular basis@marky...as with most groups, there are a lot o criminals in your black cab family, with knowledge comes the power to take advantage of the tourists by taking a lOnger route, windier road..
