Cross Drilled Brakes?
Forums › General Discussion › Cross Drilled Brakes?-
A friend of mine just bought a 370 Z, and he ordered some cross drilled brakes. I heard a few horror stories how some crack when they overheat, so I suggested he buy the vented brakes. Has any body had a problem with the cross drilled?

Cross drilled rotors can be very effective and reliable if properly manufactured. Go with proven brands like Brembo with matching caliper. Cooling is achieved accross the whole width of the rotor keeping caliper and brake fluid under boiling temperature assuming you use high temp fluid. Some cracks may appears between the holes toward the end of the rotor life but I never seen one break apart.

Yeah that makes sense, I'm not a heavy foot person when it comes to braking, but I know he is, when it comes to city driving.Cross drilled rotors can be very effective and reliable if properly manufactured. Drilled and slotted rotors are really great upgrade for your car in regards to brake upgrade. They do work really well and as for a cheap one yes they might crack towards the end life of them and the performance brands do last long and perform better than no name brands. Again you need to see what you want to achieve by this upgrade. If your car is a daily driver and you just want it for looks and not that much of performance then most brands out there will do the same but won't last long but if you are planning your car for track use then buy some Brembo or Willwood brakes. Putting drilled and slotted brake kits do increase your brakeing performance on daily driving too.

If you get cheap ones just to make it look cool, they will crack. With rotors, done spare too much change, you will get what you pay for.

Don't know about Nissan, but on Porsche they are forged with the holes (not drilled). This makes them less likely to crack...
