Why not? It happened didn't it? I also think that my deployment to Afghanistan due to that event might give me a little bit of speaking room. It makes no sense pretending that the past never happened. The only thing that does is create an ignorant person. If you don't move on and accept the fact that it did happen then what does that make you? It was a horrible thing, but far from the most horrible thing that humankind has done to itself. The only thing that reactions like that do is make you look unlearned. The holocaust was far more brutal, but I guarantee not very many people at all get ignorantly defensive when it is brought up.

I think if you knew one of the firefighters who died you would be pissed off by what you said, if someone else said it. But you mean no harm.

I agree with both of your statements, but I know plenty of my buddies who have died in combat as a direct result of the attack. Sometimes bad taste comes with truth. I certainly did not intend to offend anyone, but it has been a long time.
