Totally off topic but made me think...if we break sound barrier a "sonic boom" can be heard(when planes breaks it for example) but "if" it were possible to break the speed of light barrier, what affect would we see? And would it only be the person who traveling at that speed? Or like the sonic boom would someone who watching(whilst stationary) see effects? So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking.

If light takes time to travel to us, would going faster than light be going faster than time?

The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older.

Along the same lines, I've always wondered about this. If space is continuously expanding and you could travel in a way that you could eventually catch with the leading edge of expanding space and then travel past the leading edge, what's there? What is on the other side of space? If light takes time to travel to us, would going faster than light be going faster than time?

And one day closer to DEATH!

I've often wondered that to. If space is expanding, it must be expanding into somthing. But what?makuni wrote:

I think you have missed the point CH. The moon is in our universe so how can space expand into the moon? Did you go to school?makuni wrote:

1. Sonic booms require a resistance medium. They don't happen in space.
2. When matter reaches the speed of light, from an outside reference point, that matter is destroyed and becomes energy.
3. From that matter's own reference point, "nothing" happens.
4. It can't happen, simply because there is no propulsion energy that can exceed the speed of light in the opposite direction, which it must.

More universe is there. You can't leave. When you get to "the edge" it just wraps around again, like an ant walking on an orange. From outside a universe, there is no movement, time, distance... But we can never experience it anyway, because mass seems to create universe around it. If it were possible to -pop- leave our universe, you would create a new, empty, tiny universe to exist in. It would be infinitely small, contain only you, and whether it looks like a kaleidoscope of you, or infinite blackness, I don't know.

You are mistaken, but right in concept.makuni wrote: I've often wondered that to. If space is expanding, it must be expanding into somthing. But what?
Into more space. Eventually, at the rate were going, it'll take like 10 years just to get to the moon. The universe expansion that we see is like raisin bread rising in an oven. Each raisin is moving away from every other raisin.
The raisins are not getting bigger.
The raisins will never leave the bread.
However, the space between the moon and the earth isn't expanding enough to ever make a difference to us.

Nobody really knows what will or could happen at or past the speed of light, there are theorys, but, at the moment thats all they are.
Just because we cant go that fast at the moment it dosnt mean we never will.
I do love the way brown seems to know what happens at the edge of the universe to. -
Plans that either come naught
