So I was in school a couple days ago and I made a joke to my friend about satanists. Suddenly, the guy next to him starts defending satanists, saying how the whole cult is about not obeying authority. Whenever we even mention satanism, he pipes up defending it. So of course, now we crack jokes about it all through class.

I think it is traditionally the weapon of the powerless against the powerful. One kind makes us chuckle about our foibles and our shared humanity--like what Garrison Keillor does. The other kind holds people up to public contempt and ridicule--that's what I like about it.

Actually, I looked it up before posting. There are at least three accepted spellings. Satar and sattar are listed as well.

Another point is. Most what we could call modern satanists dont believe in god or the devil. Tends to make it even worse. Now you have the disbelief combined with a willful defiance even if he does exost
