Very Far From Perfect
Forums › General Discussion › Very Far From Perfect-
I often correct grammar and spelling in the forums. Many people call me a grammar Nazi. As I have posted many times before though, I am not perfect. I have never claimed to be perfect, in any aspect of life. As far as grammar, I know I have issues with comma splices. I also misspell words. I have an issue with the word "turfs." I often use "turf" when I refer to several because "turfs" sounds wrong to me. However, I am not even consistent with that.
So when you see me make a mistake, please correct me. Some people have the mistaken assumption that I will attack them for correcting me. That is not the case. I want to continue to learn; maybe I can also break some bad habits.
If you have other issues with me, pm me. I am (usually) happy to try and work them out. If you have questions about me, pm me and I'll answer them if I can. If I have sounded unnecessarily negative, I apologize; it can be hard to "hear tone" in words.
Thanks for listening.

Yeah, turfs, comma splices & dangling participles get me. I go back & forth on turf/turfs too.
-
Who cares about grammar on a bloody game forum. Its kinda silly that you care that much.

All I read was turf on a comma splice n going back and forth on dangly parts, just hope it's not too much turf on the splice. Sorry, I, have, selective, thinking,,,,,,,.

I care anywhere that people will read what I write. Spelling words incorrectly, etc., can develop into bad habits. Bad habits can affect things people write that are important. I also care when someone posts something that is unintelligible or takes a long time to interpret.

Lmao @ "turf on a comma splice!"

Hat off to you mystery, takes a real person to admit flaws aswell as correct others, good show. Please don't rip me apart for my grammar ,lol.

I too am a grammer and punctuation Nazi, so much so that I actually use the special Mac shortcut keys for curly quotes and en-dashes.

I must be nick and mystery's worst nightmare, lol. As I am lazy with my grammar but yet am good at spelling and articulating...probably didn't help was kicked out of school at 14, although I still sat my gcse's and manage to get a B in English ,I am pretty sure that my grammar let me down, but then it also goes along way to describing my character aswell, as I am one or substance and never Ben interested in the details ,lol. Although I do recognise I need to sharpen my grammar as it is the same as ring polite....it costs nothing. I for one do appreciate your "constructive" criticism mystery ;-)

And re-read before hitting "post"

Be only as perfect as you need to be. Anymore than that is unattainable and not worth stressing over. Appreciate your limitations and try and surpass them but not to the detriment of your of your positives.

I hate when I hit post and then notice that I spelled something wrong or missed a word. I try pretty hard to be as perfect as possible. If I'm not sure of spelling or grammar, I may even re-phrase to something simpler to avoid embarrassment.
It's the equivalent of using the restroom at a social function and noticing my hair has been sticking out funny all night.
If I'm going to be tagged as an idiot, I want it to be for substance; not appearance.
-
Not sure what your saying Mystery? There is nothing wrong with correcting our grammar errors. If peeps take issue with it and want to call you on it I would tell you what I always told my kids. No matter what you do some people will like you and some people will hate you. Not everyone loves God and some people love the Devil so it's a fact you have no control over. Don't fret over who doesn't like you cause there will always be some rejoice in the ones who do.

Usually, Mystery, I would be with you 100% as I find sloppy spelling and grammar irritating. But a couple of weeks ago someone wrote a very sloppy post and was taken to task over it, and it turned out he was dyslexic and trying his/her best.
