I think the standard of living in the uk on a like for like basis is low compared to other countries. Taking the average working week and wage earnt compared to equivalents in say Australia we are far worse off. Basically we get less for our money.
Take into account the ratio of wage earnt vs disposable income in the uk compared to other places and you see how scammed we are.

We also pay congestion tax in parts of London. A box of 20 cigarettes is now £7.30. The country is becoming ridiculous.

We pay roughly that for smokes in Canada. A lovely tax called a "sin" tax. Also added to beer and liquor. We also pay congestion tax in parts of London. A box of 20 cigarettes is now £7.30. The country is becoming ridiculous.

Look at the UK and that is where America is headed if Obama and the democrats get their way.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_tax_revenue_as_percentage_of_GDP
39% of GDP UK VS 28.2% of GDP US
US: $14,600,000,000,000 for 311,000,000 people.
UK: $2,200,000,000,000 for 62,000,000 people.Their GDP is about 1/7th ours, and the population is about 1/5th ours.
Per capita, UK earns less, but pays much more in taxes.
Of course, the distribution of production is more even in the UK, and the have more return from government in the form of services: welfare, healthcare, etc.
They are paying through the nose for "free" healthcare. I suspect more than we are.

Pull your head out of your @ss Rev and look around. The last 2 GOP Presidents F'd up everything they touched, repeatedly lied to the American people about matters large and small ("Read my lips, no new taxes!") and nearly spent the US into bankruptcy. Each time, the Dems had to clean up the mess (and did just fine, I might add).Look at the UK and that is where America is headed if Obama and the democrats get their way.
If you are gonna post about US politics, open a book before you open this app👊❕👍 -
Canada is the best place to live hands down sure we pay taxes like everyone else but free healthcare makes it all worth while plus our beer is better :)
-
Can you explain the "free" part???
-
Meh , we get get daylight robbed of our money by taxes , but at least we get quite alot of benefits over here (child benefit etc.) and free heathcare.
-
Free health care refers to the fact that canadians don't need to pay to go to the hospital. My friends 2yr old son has cancer and the drugs he needs and the treatment he needs is free they pay nothing but parking. The same treatment in the states without insurance would cost 75k
-
We may pay taxes but I'd rather pay the amount of taxes I do rather them sell my house to treat an illness
-
On the upside uk has just about managed to avoid a double dip recession with a mighty 0.5% growth...
I wouldn't give up the nhs. Free healthcare is a good thing (I personally havnt needed it so far)
However the taxation level in Britain is just plain cheeky -

Also, gotta love the fact we pay about the same for a litre of fuel as our American brothers pay for a gallon... Bring on the Smart car!! 🚙💨
-
Diesel driving a smart car is like sticking a fork in a toaster it seems like a good idea at the start but then zzzzzzzap your dead
