Drafting Cam Newton is a big mistake if/when they go that route. I know it's awful, but I have serious questions about the black athletic quarterback. I've seen way too many flop in the last 15 years. Vince Young hasn't ever progressed. Culpepper and Jemarcus Russell are out of the league. Vick had a terrible work ethic and wasn't progressing in Atlanta until he went to prison and went to Philly. The only quarterback out of that mold who progressed to the point that he became a pocket quarterback was Mcnabb. And there are already questions about Newton. I know there's a chance that he could become a good quarterback, but that's a risk I'd want another team to make if I was a Panthers fan. Pocket quarterbacks win in football, not athletic quarterbacks with pocket deficincies (sp). I'm not racist, I love Mcnabb and how he plays/played the game. I'm more of a realist who has seen way too many athletic run first quarterbacks fail in this league

Really wish I knew more about American football, I love watching it, but it's so complicated (to a Brit anyway) what's diff with an athletic quarterback or a pocket quarterback? I'm guessing pocket would be a play maker and athletic brute strength and speed? And sorry to ask not trying to stir anything up, but why would the colour if the guys skin make any difference to his capabilities and style of play? Forgive me if silly questions I am British though! Lol

No, it's not a silly question. A pocket quarterback is a guy who stays behind the line after the snap and doesn't run around. He's not typically a mobile guy but he usually can read defenses better and is usually a really accurate passer. A mobile quarterback usually doesn't stay in the pocket as long. He panics much quicker and takes off and runs. In the NFL, those guys don't win Super Bowls. You have to be a good pocket passer to make it to the Super Bowl. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger are all really good in the pocket. Big Ben and Aaron will take off occasionally, but they'll run around more trying to by time and make a throw. I see guys like Vince Young just take off running. That is great and all, but in the NFL where linebackers are bigger, faster and stronger, those guys don't succeed as well in the NFL as the guys who just pick you apart passing the ball

I always love your assessment of the game. It's always bang on, IMO (even if I am a Cowboys fan and you're just going to have to lump it and get over that...I'm a Texan, what can I say).

Hahaha...yes lol. We finally got a big time qb who has yet to play a game. If we can hold on to Steve smith we should be good cause we have Jeremy shocky too at TE. Just need to be healthy this year...if they play at all
