No, im not a old "tommy" crying about seeing a german i the street. But what i have noticed is now when I go on holiday , there are alot more german things popping up.

Take majorca , for example. Ive been coming here for about 9 years now. But this year, I see that german is becoming a second lauguage rather than english. Translations were in german , not english , whereas a couple of years ago there was hardly a whiff of the germans.
And it seems everywhere i go , english is becoming phased out. Oh well , looks like were going to actually start learning foriegn lauguagues. And its also nice to see the nightclubs are still in english as well. Any thoughts?

I know what you mean,when I was in Munich '37,it was very similar.lots of little things that others didn't notice.well,it was a tumultuous period after,and now,when I go on holiday,I tend to notice how very polite they are,not because,but just how,I've learnt much

The world tires of the English, a lot of places are choosing other places, most places learnt English because of large Uk world influence, we don't have that now, the US also helped spread the language but bush forigen policy made a lot of the world anti US and the close relation with the UK had an effect too.
Germany is the biggest eU economy so that's what's gonna happen. Look out for the Russian influence as that grows in influence.
Ultimately china and India will have an effect as they grow too

The signs are just for whoever the majority of the tourists are at the time, not an expression of waning UK influence. If gerry went off Majorca for a season, they'd soon be advertising the sausage and beans in English again.
It's an international language, English. It'll take ages if ever for a replacement to come along.

Please do not go on about the Germans . My grandad died in a concentration camp during the war . Ok i admit he fell out a guard tower whilst pissed up but its still sad . .. Yes I know I've told this one a hundred times already

Errm , this thread is not meant to insult germans , only the change in tourism. And anyway , most of us have relatives that have been affected by the second world war , my great grandad was blown up by a German U-Boat.

Yep, and one of my relatives had his legs shot off in sicilly. But he was a german paratrooper. Go figure.
