I tried to download an apple update this morning.

It prompted me to restart pc and now it says "configuring update 3 of 3 0% completed"

It does not do anything then restarts itself and and loads to this screen again.

Tried system repair and load using last good restore point but no luck !

Web search only goes on about an a similar issue that wad resolved by SP1 (I run vista home basic -preloaded).I've had SP1 for ages so I don't think this applies here.

Please help

I do remember there were issues with SP1, however, I dot remember the solution. Why you running vista anyway..it's the crappest OS in Microsoft history! Maybe this is an excuse to make the switch to 7.

i know but i can change to 7 until in can get into vista.
Im not great with computers but would i lose all of my work, photos etc???

Add a new hardrive into ur machine (if they are IDE drives make the new one master and old one slave....if they are Sata drives just plug it in)

Install windows 7 onto new drive and once booted into windows transfer the new files across. 👍

Have ya also tried booting into safe mode? .....if not sure how, after post screen/beeps keep pressing f8 and select 'safe mode'

Don't reinstall, you may (if not careful) wipe your drive and lose your data.

Questions for you:
1) is the message a windows message or an iTunes message?
2) if it is an iTunes message, just go to the iTunes site and redownload the latest version and install it over your current iTunes. Your data will be safe.
If it is not an iTunes message,
3) can you log on to windows, or is this before that?
4) can you get onto pal later tonight and pm me? we can work out the rest from there..

Ahh. I took mine to a microsoft pc engineer, maybe he had a special disk as my windows was preinstalled to. If i remember right i think i had a new hard drive to as JaBe is saying, i know it cost me a fair bit to sort out. Hence we are getting rid of the pc asap and getting an apple

Download Windows from another PC,youre serial key will be on the case of your PC,so long as you use your key you have nothing to worry about.
Do a windows repair using the new disc - no data should be lost as its only reconfiguring the OS not the HD.

Did you get any restore cd's with the pc? If it doesn't boot in safe mode then I dont think it is software related... Safe mode stops all programs from running so could be hardware. How far do you get before it reboots?

Get windows 7 and install it won't get rid of vista you will have both os on your system but using 7 and your files will still b there

Just turn your computer on. And right after that hit and hold f8( I think) that should take you to a system restore screen to restore your whole computer. If it ain't f8 try the 6-10.

I wouldn't have a dual OS on your pc.... Uber sluggish and very problematic (from experience)... Just buy a new hard drive, then download a copy of windows 7 enterprise 32 or 64 bit... I have a corporate key you can use.
