PC for those who were xuriou as to what rig... Its looking good. Tomorrow is software intall day, I'm going W7U 64bit, just hoping I don't get driver issues with my print equipment! Anyway, here it is.
AMD PHENOM II BE 3.3ghz CPU.
4GB CORSAIR DOM 2 DDR3 1866ghz RAM. With twin cooler.
600w green psu (doing my bit for the planet).
Flagship gigabyte AM3 mobo, has built in hd graphics processor, half decent, will save for something beastly.
Corsair H50 hyrdo cooler.
Nzxt phantom White/red case.At a tidy sum of £600. That's inc a 2nd 18" monitor.
Cos its black edition everything is oc ready, according to amd, CPU can push to 4ghz on all 6 cores! Ddr3 is actually running at 1333mhz but easily oc to 1866, some say 2000. Built in graphics card has a bit of potential too. Oh and ita got integrated USB 3.0 so I'm pretty much sorted for next 5 yrs lol. Watcha think?

All sounds pretty tasty... Not sure about build in gfx card, never been a fan. But I'm guessing a good one would have bumped up the price dramatically.
USB 3 is a nice addition (I need to get this). 64-bit and only 4gb ram. Should be sufficient but if slots allow I would buy another 4gb.
What's your intended use for the system? -
Easy way to beat that is buy a Mac. 😺

Bingo. Not to mention the fact that I can upgrade as and when required.Bugsy✯Siegel wrote:

I'm not a big fan of igx either but it'll do for a bit. I did look at a few cards, would have easily bumped cost £100. Just received my 1tb green hdd this morning, everything good to go! It's for work, entertainment n casual gaming, pretty much all rounder. Only want 64bit so I can utilise the ram to fullest potential. All sounds pretty tasty... Im sure the spec will suite those needs... I would suggest using a hard drive for os and apps alone, then another for games/storage. Just invested in a SSD.... Mney well spent, windows 7 boots in under 10seconds.
I'd just get a 7200rpm 200gb drive for os... Cost like £35-40... -

I considered ssd. Damn pricey though! Maybe slowly I'll add more to it bIm sure the spec will suite those needs... I would suggest using a hard drive for os and apps alone, then another for games/storage. Just invested in a SSD.... Mney well spent, windows 7 boots in under 10seconds.

Hmm, how hard is it to build a computer by the way? I've been thinking about trying to make one (or more likely a laptop atm since I just got a new computer). How much technical knowledge do I need?

Mobo, stuff you can find in manuals if you're clueless. Saying that, to most it will sound easier than it is. -
You will struggle to build a laptop... Parts are hard to swap out, with the only easy access ones being RAM and HDD.... Mobo compatibility varies greatly also so probably not worth it... Custom desktops = yes. Custom laptops = no....

There are manufacturers of DIY laptops, but as mentioned before, you have a high chance of incompatible parts unless you buy from the same OEM. Custom PC is better as a DIY project.

What??? Lol

Don't make the mistake I once did by putting the heatsink on the wrong way round.. Fried chips anyone? 😺
