I would recommend stop playing guitar because you will probably suck at it. I sucked at guitar so i stopped playing

Bypass the guitar and go straight for the heroin. You won't regret it.

You can use many learning techniques but what you can never escape is tons of practice, I've never managed to master the guitar but when I have in fits and starts given it a go the more I do the better it sounds....

You tube a bloke called Rob " Chappers" chapman. He does a whole load of short films. He teaches my boy and is very good. As for reading music, start with tablature. Its a simplified form of writing and reading music. Thirdly, find a good teacher. I tought myself but it took along time. My boy plays better than me because he had a very good teacher in rob. I hope this helps

I'm learning to play myself, but so far I haven't had any time to just sit down and play (or at least I haven't made time). IMO, I think the way to learn to play varies from person to person, as each person struggles with different things. For example, I can play single notes across strings just fine (strumming, not so much), but I still struggle to get chords right. That's the first thing I will focus on once I get some time to seriously practice playing. I don't know what you find to be the most difficult thing about playing guitar, but my advice is to work on that one thing first. Everything else will (most likely) fall into place from there.

Private fortnightly/monthly lessons and loads of practice aswell as toughening up the skin on them fingers..
Don't mistakenly learn bad habits which will then take you double the time to undo again..I learned that the hard way
lol
watch Youtube clips, read books on chord playing, learn your basic Major & Minor chords A,B,C,D,E,F,G
then when you know and feel them all off by heart, Then you can play most songs based on their chord tabs.. -
@ krazyjay.
1)you don't wanna learn to read music, u need to learn tablature. music is a lot harder.
tablature is for guitar and it piss ass easy, there are six lines, for for each string of the guitar, and then a # is displayed on the line, thats the fret you put your finger on. tada, u now can read tablature.
http://guitar.about.com/od/tabchordslyrics/ss/read_guitar_tab.htm2)download a tuner app for your iphone, it will make tuning your guitar so easy, and an untuned guitar sounds like garbage.
3)google, i didn't have it when i learned to play guitar, and i'm sure if i did i would still be ripping.
thats all the help i can offer.
i tried, but i have no rhythm so i sucked at music -
heres one for you

No matter how much you think you suck, don't stop just keep trying and trying and eventually you will become a talented guitarist. Also an app I use to find/play tablature is Ultimate Guitar Tab

Was playing for a couple years and was getting pretty good. You need to practice everyday, even if you don't get time on 1 day, try take out 20mins. Tips of your fingers will get painful holding chords down mate, there is a pain barrier you will have to go through until they harden up, but worth it. First things first J, learn your chords then keep going through them one after each other untill your hands hurt ( they will really hurt😖). The pain will go and you will get better as the day, weeks go on, that's a promise👍 let me know how you get on...

Get yourself the "guitar chord bible" and just practice chords all the time.
-
Failing that get a program called "guitar tools". It's very useful. Also "activeguitar.com" is great.

Lol...don't know why put random? How random?

As already mentioned every instrument takes a lot of time (at least years) until it really is fun to play and especially listen to it.
It's all about motivation. I started myself playing bass guitar about 5 years ago in a band. Several years ago I played guitar just for myself, but that was not really sucessful, just because of missing motivation.
Making music with other people really pushes you into a new dimension. ;) So my advice is clearly to learn some basics (6-12 months) and than look for other people in your area.Cheers, Conway

Buy the iPhone app guitartoolkit and iReal book. These apps are amazing. Also, for books buy the Guitar Grimoire: chords and voices and also the guitar Grimoire: a notated intervalic study or scales. Purchase tracing paper and some markers and you will be well on your way.
Use metronome. Learn to count rhythm on the 1st and third beat and the 2nd and forth. These are bossa nova and swing beats. Many types of music come out of these primary beats.

Well, this is what you do. Start with tab, get used to playing regular, have your guitar teacher get a note to tab conversion sheet, and give you sheet music from then on, AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS OF PLAYING! This is how I did it.
I'm currently learning the free bird solo myself...
