I want to get a MacBook for school but I already have an acer netbook. I can't think of any good reasons to convince my parents to get me a MacBook. Any Ideas?

Same with me too, but i have no clue what to say

MacBooks are overpriced and have less functionality. Don't get one

Less functionality.?
Over priced? They are an aluminum unibody design and they have good specs. Apple doesn't sell pieces of crap. That's why they aren't cheap.
All those acers, HPs and dells are all cheap plastic that breaks apart.
OSX is also far better than windows, has a far more intuitive interface.
All round much better product.Unfortunately if u already own a decent laptop there is no need to get another one.
But look at the goodside that cheap plastic piece of crap won't last nearly as long, so you'll have to replace it soon enough

Good luck getting that upgrade. I am on my second Macbook in 6 years. First one, I gave to a friend whose computer went to crap. Yeah, 6 years later the Black Macbook still runs fine. Macs are awesome. That is why you should get one instead of a PC.

I just bought one for work today, been using it all night. It's awesome. Getting used to the finger gestures takes some getting used to but make a lot of sense when you figure them out. I like it a lot.
That said, if it was my money, I'd be pissed I spent a $1000 more than if I had bought a comparably spec'd laptop. -

Mac is pretty good for casualty, but not so much for working. Plus, they are SLOW when you don't get some programs. For example the mac I'm typing on.ripd wrote:

For work I have a 27" iMac, with expose and spaces set up right, it's make my work process so much easier, switching between all the different programs I have open etc.
I also have windows running in vmware fusion on one of the spaces, so I can switch between windows and Mac programs when I need to -
Mac ,less chance if virus ,and a big % less chance
,they less complicated....someone put it to m before I went mac that, " pc's are like old haunted mansions, with loads twists and turns and corridors(hard to find what u know there)
A mac u like a open plan minimalist setout, in my opinion is set out logically and not 4 ways to change same settings etc, although they both have their plus and negative, I also find mac will outlast a pc, talking general of shelf production machines! Does anyone else feel this way? -

Trog, do u dual boot ur IMAc with win and snow leopard? If so does it make it slower or is it best to boot 1 from startup rarer than Gavin win and ox run at same time?? OH YEAH FORGOT TO MENTION MAC RUNS WIN AND OX AT SAME TIME!!
-
I don't think the term dual boot is correct, the way u meant it.
but yea that's what i do. i have both snow leopard and windows XP running at the same time.
I also normally have , adobe after effects, photoshop and illustrator, word, exel and powerpoint open at the same time also.
absolutely no performance issues when i do this.but i have a 2.8Ghz quad core i7 with 8 gigs of ram.....not your ordinary iMac

Sorry, dual boot!! Lol,"boot camp!!" I have read and found out I have 2 options, 1. I can put windows on my iMac ,and when i startup com can choose between win and osx, or 2. I can have win and osx on the computer and can go between the two without turning off and rebooting, sorry trog my computer term are note best, lol, just wanted opinions on it,as I have never asked anyone, and don't want to do if will slow down my iMac, I know having both accessible at same time probably will, not sure what to do??I don't think the term dual boot is correct, the way u meant it.

Lol, fair point. Either way if not cared for properly, will eventually be time do new 1,I think the selling point for me on the mac was the life span (in general) compared to pc! Don't know if thi is apple fan boy myth,or sales pitch etc, but the evidence for mac having longer life span seems to be there. So could be a cheaper (or at least same) price overall?? Thoughts, experience? But for the record macs are pretty but I see pc and laptops thy are just as aesthetically pleasingRedWall$treet wrote:

I talked with one of my friends just now and he said that his birthday present was being able to get this huge 1400 dollar laptop. I think that's fair, but my birthday is in May.I really really want a Mac.

This is the one I want http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook?mco=MTM3NDc0OTE

The rule still applies, you get what you pay for. And for the people that don't know, switching from a PC to a Mac is like going from an old ass Motorola Razor to an iPhone 4. It's like going from a Ford Festiva to a Porsche 911. It's like going from a MySpace to FaceBook (bad example they both suck!) You get the point.
Macs run Windows, if you need to. PCs can't run both. So, all the software you already own will work on it.
Macs come with the best software loaded. They don't come preloaded with a bunch of bull💩. Plus, the Mac App Store allows you to get software very easily.
Macs don’t need anti-virus software. NO VIRUSES!
Less dumb questions and error messages.
Macs are well built, very durable and have high resale value. I bought my Mac mini core duo in 2006. I'm running the latest OS X 10.6.6. I could sell it on eBay right now and it would cover half the cost of a new Mac mini.
I could go on and on! Also, so you know I've used both for a very long time.

First, the last Mac I used was total garbage. Boot camp doesn't optimize windows at all so it's just not as good as it is on the PC. When you buy a Mac you lose any chance you had at gaming with it.
To be fair nobody buys laptops to game, but still. As for all the software, I don't like it. iTunes is shit, and dislike safari. As for the rest i don't care enough to use. I like starting fresh, and choosing every program I get, so I know Im not getting useless shit on my comp.
And the MacBook air is just the biggest fail to hit the market. But hey! They know their target demographic. And that's rich people.
-
Ur right ripd on their target demographic ,without doubt, although rich people didn't get rich (or alot business people) by wasting good money, so their product may be well over priced and the price might not reflect how much better is, but none the less I must say I think they are, except gaming, although the power mac (intels) I hear at good, I am not rich just fed up of new laptop or desktop every year or 2 ,I am 8mnths into mac (fanboy if ya like) so we will see, so far so good.NO virus and no anti virus or anything
-
And it's cos I'm not rich that I researched and opted for mac, although they are pricey, I paid £1000 for 3.06 dual core 4mb ram intel , and th same equivalent hd screen etc was around 800-900?? Fingers crossed, (1 wanted was power mac quad/8 core 16mb ram 2tb) £3700 I think?
-
Yeah the hardware itself is actually great. Except if I owned a Mac I'd do nothing on it except check FB once a week and punch codes. So, to me it's over priced. And to anyone using it for school, windows is just as good.
-
Yeah very needs specific machines except new intel mid range iMacs , they are brill especially for simplicity and piece mind on virus, but gaming is def for pc on kind run, them alien ware (I think ) are mad and expensive

Can't you get TurfWars on a Mac?

I guess no one has heard of alienware, best computers out there. Better then a mac an its running windows

Lmfao you obviously haven't explored the world of gaming with pc laptops/desktop because alienware is overpriced garbage like macs. For example compare an mx17 with let's say.. An ASUS G73jh. Same specs and evyerything but ASUS being favored more for a couple reasons. The ASUS comes up to be 1200-1300, while alienware tries to overprice you and sell therea for 3000.I guess no one has heard of alienware, best computers out there. Better then a mac an its running windows
