Why no beer at footy matches??
Forums › General Discussion › Why no beer at footy matches??-
Now there might be an obvious answer to this, but why is beer not allowed pitchside at footy games, but you can drink as much as you like outside? At rugby matches the only rule is how many you can buy at a time! The only reasons I can gather is 1 - people getting too pissed, and 2 - using glass as a weapon. But either footy or rugby, marshals are there to marshal pissheads, and barstaff always have a responsibility to refuse service to a drunk patron.
A good point made by my mate is that he's not allowed pitchside with a beer, but I'm allowed in with a piping hot coffee that Could be thrown at anyone and do pretty serious damage. Maybe not as much damage as glass, but if they serve beer in plastic vessels then problem is gone no??

Well, excessive acholol consumption can lead to well drunkenness, and violent/deadly behavioral patters which could cause fighting/violence at a family location with kids there, and obviously kids aren't allowed to drink
-
I suppose the coffe more dangerous and a threat if drunk! Catch 22,lol ...yeah see what saying though, can drink at rugby ? But rugby fAns seem to have more decorum

I think it's probably got something to do with the hooligan era of football, a few fucked it up for everybody.

I've been to both and the atmosphere at a football match is alot more hostile. At rugby the different fans mix together and it's friendly. Football Fans drink before the match though though. I think they can drink at footy matches on the continent though. Im a football fan and would like to drink a whilst watching Liverpool stick it to Chelsea

Agreed, not that football fans are less gentlemen than rugby fans, just rugby seems to be more class motivated(generally) and football u have all classes walks off life including ya local Chavs ,scallies, herberts, plonkers ,take ya pick, but agreed a few ruined it for allI think it's probably got something to do with the hooligan era of football, a few fucked it up for everybody.

Ok if they don't allow alcohol in the stadium to reduce drunken incidents, etc, that's fine. Bu I was at te united v villa game last week and a fella went down at half time to get beers. He was trying to get back to his seat with 4 or 5 bottles of beer. When the marshal stopped him, saying he has to drink them before he goes back to his seat. So the fella necked all of the beers in about 5 minutes and toddles off to his seat. Now where is the logic there??

Uk does have a alchohol prob, the cities and towns are like a swamp of puke, copulating teenagers fights and pharmaceuticals legal and illegal, and the occasional loonatik ex on a hunting trip for the "new guy" mad ,

But I do understand this.. They do sell beer at the stadium but your not allowed pitchside or basically to your chair with it. They serve it in a plastic cup too which is pointless... Also, you arent allowed cans? That one confused me.
