Don't understand something

Why do people get upset when they get attacked, especially in an app that has war in the name? I know there are several other players who are lashing out against the turf huggers, but I'm not in a position to do that. I'm more curious about what this says about society in general or the upcoming generation or the current generation. Why do they take it so personally? I know some people who have started researching the development of a digital self that people seem to be creating via various systems, networks, etc., but it just blows my mind that people take fake attacks in a fake system with consequence in the real world so literally and personally. Sorry for this random dip into philosophy and sociology. Please continue your regularly scheduled capping and punching.

I would say Bee that in the few short weeks I've really played this game two factors are at work. The first would be prior disposition. Meaning if you are a genuinely kind person your mob persona will reflect that. Second is an unwritten, though forum driven code of conduct. If somebody steps out of what the players here deem out of line, hence whine or cap a person our of the are affecting income, etc., they draw the wrath of the whole group. While Bee you don't know me or many others havnt spoken to me, for example, the forum posts, especially the help and stategy section dictated a certain form of behavior that forced me to understand the Turf Wars culture if I chose to gain a greater sense of enjoyment from the game. Does that sound plausible?

I think it's because people put time and effort into the game and don't want to see the time wasted when someone comes along and threatens it.

That's it Goliath, so the adhere to the code of conduct if they are cognizant of it.

Some people have their whole sense of self invested in this game. Look around and you can spot them. Sad, but this silly game is better than their actual life. Given that, why would you expect them to react differently? The reason I enjoy playing is watching this culture of simulation unfold. Reflect on how much time it has taken some of these guys to punch 14,000 or more codes. Interesting how much real world money individuals have invested to have wealth and security in this game. The question of why someone would be upset is answered by recognizing those that play this as a game and those that play it competitively. I imagine individuals on here have let game play cause disruptions with their relationships with their spouses. It is interesting. I don't think it says much about any generation.

I think the game does say something about the development of obsession. Similar to many forms of gaming for profit. Satisfaction of accomplishment is paid off with a reward via mob size, turf gains; however, having to fund further gains must be done with purchases, more code entry, or advocating for changes in percieved game improvement becomes political depending on the position and situation of each player within their power and cultural/ psychological/ strategic perspective. It is all very interesting. On a given day one can see evidence of real world struggles reflected in the banter, discussion, and violence or organized teamwork and brotherhood in the game.

Players also excel using skills available to them. Matt is great with math, Chainsaw Charlie is very analytical and good at managing resources. Individuals also excel by social acumen. There are many types of intelligence at play in this game.

Exactly. It us fun to experiment with on many levels. However the OP's question was why do people get upset? The answer is simply that they are too close to it.Players also excel using skills available to them. Matt is great with math, Chainsaw Charlie is very analytical and good at managing resources. I would probably agree with rckingday's idea about being predisposed to display a certain persona, but I could also see the complete opposite being true, ie someone who is timid and shy playing very aggressively, which is why I think ikslopot hit the nail on the head - obsession and achievement. I know I will enjoy passing certain milestones in mob size and influence that I've set as personal goals because ive already met some of them and enjoyed it. But it's still a game that I can walk away from at any point. I'd actually miss the forums more than any amount of money or turf because this is the sole real part for me, and I think I may be in the minority in that sense. Maybe it's just a community wide phase, like a maturity thing that will weed out the emotionally immature. I've got so many thoughts on this that I could just go on and on. Probably should have nominated myself for bella's most likely to write a book.

Anyway I am just concerned for those of us who take anything out of context or proportion; as more people do the less likely we are to progress past our current state, whatever you feel that to be.

I dunno about you guys, but the reason I play TW is because all my turfs are at home in NJ. It's my only connection to the US now. Kinda defensive about them.
