Activated alliance in push notifications?

What does this option do?
I thought alliances was only something players agreed on between themselves and are not incorporated into the game like for example the vendetta.

assisted attack

activated alliance

etc etc

Oh yeah I seen that, god knows what it's for. Maybe it has something to do with the upcoming updates

Or maybe it is something that once was going to be there but nick changed his mind and now only the push option is left (without doing anything)...
