Berkley CA city council is full of IDIOTS
Forums › General Discussion › Berkley CA city council is full of IDIOTS-
Amid calls from some politicians to press treason charges -- which could carry the death penalty -- against whoever leaked secret cables to WikiLeaks, the Berkeley, Calif., City Council is entertaining a resolution to declare that an Army private accused of leaking some classified information to the website is an American hero.
City Peace and Justice Commissioner Bob Meola, who authored the resolution, told the San Francisco Chronicle that Pfc. Bradley Manning, 22, is a patriot who deserves a medal.
"If he did what he's accused of doing, he's a patriot and should get a medal," Meola told the newspaper. "I think the war criminals should be the ones prosecuted, not the whistle-blowers."
Manning -- accused of leaking a video that depicted an Army helicopter attack that left 11 people dead in Baghdad and widely suspected of leaking hundreds of thousands of secret cables to WikiLeaks -- is currently being held in a Virginia military brig.

And that's where he belongs, say members of a national veterans group, who call the Berkeley resolution "appalling."
Ryan Gallucci, a spokesman for AMVETS, which represents roughly 180,000 U.S. veterans, said the City Council "would be wise" to vote down the resolution in support of Manning. A city commission has already approved the measure, and the Berkeley City Council will vote on it on Tuesday.
"AMVETS believes it would be appalling to commend someone like Bradley Manning, who has betrayed his country and disgraced the uniform," Gallucci wrote in a statement to FoxNews.com. "Manning not only compromised American interests across the globe, but he has blood on his hands for our Afghan allies sought out by the Taliban from the first leak."
Gallucci said Berkeley lawmakers should be "ashamed" that the proposal ever surfaced.

I found that on the following site:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/12/08/veterans-group-blasts-resolution-honor-army-private-accused-leaks/?test=latestnewsIMO, Manning should be tried and if found guilty of treason, should be executed. Jail time shouldn't even be an option. Why are people so hell bent on making him a freaking hero? He betrayed our country!

If we had people like the Berkeley city counsil during WWI and WWII....NVM I hate to even imagine where our country would be with if these idiots had been in charge back then.

Interesting fact: when Chinese dissidents published files from the Chinese government relating to the tienemen square massacre, the rest if the world saw them as heroes for standing up to a corrupt oppressive regime.
Guess the shoe is on the other foot now and all of a sudden it doesn't fit -
Manning signed a contract and more importantly took an oath to defend the country.
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).
Doesn't say anything about giving classified information to a douche bag like Assange. -

And you are surprised at berkeley's council's action because.....?
I'm surprised that it is even considered news. If they ever did anything intelligent now THAT would be news.

the guy did commit treason, i wont disagree with that.
but to call for the death of someone without being in a position to understand all the facts in the case, is a bit extreme. There is a process, the guy will more than likely get court mashalled, the evidence will be presented.
and people with all the information and a far better understanding of the situation than us will make the decision that is best.but, this isn't a political form, and i don't wanna get into a debate, because it is very clear, that most people have accepted the hypocritical view of their politicians, where it OK when its done to your enemies but its wrong when done to you.

More than 850,000 Americans have top secret clearance. Which means that every government in the world has a spy here with access to all this classified info, let's not be ignorant about this fact. Let's stop saying this will hurt America so bad because guess what, this is all OLD NEWS!! I'm going to stick to my original post saying this is just a slow news cycle and that's it. If a hurricane would have hit Miami 3 months ago you would not be talking about this at all. There is a process, the guy will more than likely get court mashalled, the evidence will be presented.

Brown I totally agree with you this info on wikileaks is in no way true Top Secret info, it's just garbage that everyone already knows. The good stuff doesn't even go into the computer system.

I disagree. Some of the stuff that has been released is common knowledge but some of the cables that were released had information that is pretty damaging. Take the sites considered critical to the US interests. Not many people knew about the companies that make vaccines for the government or all of the weapons companies and what is made at each site. I am pretty sure it wasn't common knowledge about the coordinates for the trans-Atlantic communication lines. Those could be pretty good intel and aren't really easy to just up and move.Brown I totally agree with you this info on wikileaks is in no way true Top Secret info, it's just garbage that everyone already knows. If not, isn't it pretty arrogant for us to say the Taliban will kill them, like they are going to listen to us for their marching orders? (if they have, I apologize to their families) And it's hard not to see the situational irony in the timing of the sex charges...Manning signed a contract and more importantly took an oath to defend the country.

As capo of Berkeley I just want to represent and say that it would be best if we could all just sit down over a cup of chamomile tea and some granola and talk this out.

And that link says exactly what I mean. "could" "may" "potentially" be in danger. And what else was the Taliban supposed to say? "we don't believe the info is accurate, so we aren't going to do anything except kill whomever we want for whatever reason we deem appropriate at the time...oh wait...already do that..." I mean seriously, these people are at risk simply because of where they live, their lives in are danger everyday. The case would be much more compelling if they could say this group of people was killed specifically because they were in the leaks and not because of something else, you know like rebelling against the taliban
