Revitalizing TW
Forums › General Discussion › Revitalizing TW-
I used to play this game long ago and remember how much fun the community was. It truly was/is something special. That being said- two noticeable things stood out to me upon returning. The first of which is that the game is exactly the same as I remember it from 10+ years ago, which is strange because now it seems quite antiquated by comparison. I personally love the aesthetic of the game and the screens, and it seems quite nostalgic to me, but certainly reads as a time capsule to an outsider. The other thing I realized is how sparse the player base seems to be now. I remember a unique and vibrant forum and community that seems much more subdued now. Perhaps that’s just a result of more interaction in private channels but probably tied into the decreasing player base.
My question is do you vets think it’s worth starting up now? I enjoy the game and find it so charming and interesting but if there isn’t anything being done to drive new players/revitalize I don’t want to sink the time and money if TW is gone.

My thread is not to be a complainer to pick out things I don’t like but I am legitimately interested in the old heads’ thoughts on if it’s worth starting fresh in ‘25 nearly ‘26. Even just posting this thread brought a smile to my face like back in the day so maybe I’ll stick with it to the bitter end…

Well if you start back up you might be able to get 1500-2000 mob in a year. You can get hench at anniversary up to 3 times your mob.
Really kind of depends on what you want to do. If you want to fight then your size could be helpful in starting vendettas.
It doesn’t look like anything will ever change or improve so what you see now is what you get. Good luck.

I really only started in the last year now. Definitely doable.

I have had this same thought. It could be at any rate the game could completely without notice “expire” and be removed from the app store just like flappy bird, or be resold to be revamped. I doubt the latter and will protect my $$$ and not invest in a dying game that appears to be on its last legs.My thread is not to be a complainer to pick out things I don’t like but I am legitimately interested in the old heads’ thoughts on if it’s worth starting fresh in ‘25 nearly ‘26. As an vet, if the “owner” of this game does not do anything to re assure its customers that it aims to fix and provide information of its existence in the competitive field of gps gaming, then i see it as inevitability this game will self-delete eventually.

Fixed would be great but I think the big issue is lack of advertising. I have seen countless ads for torn. Never for this game. Hard to pull people in if nobody knows about it.Dan Tamby wrote:

Yes advertising plays a pivotal role. I remember back in 2012 turf war ads were EVERYWHERE. you couldnt open the app store without seeing an add for it★ΛUGUSTINΞ★ wrote:

I think an update that provides some simple QOL and modern textures combined with the right advertising campaign could bring in a lot of new folks. Would require some upfront investment but I think would be worthwhile

I’ve been playing for, a month now… At close to 1k mobs and made heaps of new friends!
I think, playing is a question… but investing your time into something you enjoy, is always worthwhile. Plus, as long as the games running, there will always be new players. Society ages, and the kids will find this one day and we’ll all be old and grey with 100k mobs, trying to talk some sense into the young whipper snappers! Lol -
I felt the same way when I joined back a year ago. I started playing in 2011. I remember the vibrant forum, and being able to mob up quickly by code punching. When I came back I had 5k mob.
The game is the same but the dynamic of the game is different. You can still mob up and (I’m not sitting at 17k mob after a year and a half) but there is no way a person can take on a large player without a family. Family is the name of the game now. My family I’m apart of so the reason I’ve stayed playing and continued to grow and have a growing account. Cyrus said it well, on average you can gain 1200 to 2000 mob a year from punching temps. That means with the anniversary event you could have between 3600-6000 mob growth which isn’t shabby at all.
As far as new player influx, there is a good amount of temps always popping up (around 100 a month). It’s just connecting with new players to keep them engaged in the game -

An argument could be made that the “feature” of this game is “real time based” with “active and real players” is a number one reason for its nostalgia. Honestly online gaming is full of bots, and the internet is full with fake accounts. One thing this game does try well to promote is, real people who with real lives engage with each other in real time. The folks ally or foe, you encounter could be something no other game could do. But this is only real for those who have suffered playing this game since its beginning (dealing with bugs and glitches etc..)

I recall campaigning long ago for a relatively minor change that would be in the spirit of the game (namely, that you should not have a weakness penalty when placing turf by gps location far from other turf, since you are playing a gps game, in fact an advantage would be nice, but at least not a penalty). Well, 12 years later it’s exactly the same game except with a higher limit on henchmen, which serves only to drive money into the owner’s pockets.
There will never be any changes to the game, there will not even be a push to get new players. It is exactly what it always will be. Not to say you can’t play the game and enjoy it, but i wouldn’t put much money into it. Play your own game, however you want, as long as it’s fun. That’s all you can do.
