New job!?
Forums › General Discussion › New job!?-
I had a interview for a hvac company a few weeks ago and almost lost hope that I got the job. But today I got the phone call I was longing for... I got the job! It comes with a dollar an hou raise and paid training. The question is how do I go about putting in my two week notice for a hvac company that I've worked with fir the last 12 years?

Hvac=heating ventilation and air conditioning. For those of you that don't know.

Damn iPod! My typos- hour and for

Being in the construction field myself, never burn bridges.. Go out honorably and respectful briefly stating that you have a better opportunity elsewhere. Or something along those lines. 😉
-
Plus ya never know, being there for that long at your old company, they might see you as a valued employee and counter they're opponents offers with better one
-
Cat. Before U ditch the current company maybe U need 2 talk 2 da boss first. Maybe they would give U the dollar raise. People never know their employees want something unless U let them know. 12 yrs is a bunch. They deserve a heads up & chance. Just my thought.

Thanks! But the comany I work for now got bought out by new out by new owners. I was laid off for 8 months this year and will be again once I finish the 32 family apartments I'm working on is finished. That's the reason I was out looking. The new owners don't go out and look for new jobs for us. They put me thru some hard times this year.
-
Also when I started there we had close to 32 employees now we are down to 8.
-
Well then U already know Ur answer. Appreciate da missen details regarden an answer U already knew. So bounce.
-
Just post them a formal letter, will seem professional and will be les stressful on your part.
-
That's what my ex does (HVAC).
-
Times are rough my friend, if you have the opportunity go for it, from what you added to the post sounds like you already know what's best for ya. Good luck.

When it all comes down to it you're just another #. Unless you're family or kinfolk.

Have you talked to the new co. and explained you would like to give an appropriate notice to your current one? If you approach it right they will gain respect for you and trust as they will know you would give them the same benefit if the time arose.
I did that once. When I went to the current (at the time) co. they said go ahead and go to the new one so I was able to start right away and left on good terms. And the new co. appreciated that I was trying to do the right thing.
Congrats!!!! -

I think like most industries, your reputation and connections are all you got when you peel back the layers. buyouts suck. but generally speaking, in my industry I can those that put in their notice because who wants people on your team sauntering about that doesn't want to be there.

Wtf is wrong with them? Honestly like sickmind said don't leave on bad terms. I learned this while driving a 18wheeler, long story short i left one company on bad terms to go back withen a year... The new owners don't go out and look for new jobs for us. They put me thru some hard times this year.

Update: everything went fine this morning. She started to cry on me and said I can still put in my work for the next two weeks. She also said that she respects my move and if we had more work she would counter their offer in a second. Also thanks to everyone that posted, it helped alot.

Sounds like you handled this well man. That "don't burn bridges" advice you got from others is really the big thing when you leave a company. Especially in small and/or localized industries.
